The Eighth Hungarian Tribe, 1986 (13. évfolyam, 1-12. szám)

1986-09-01 / 9-10. szám

NEWS IN BRIEF LETTERS Dear Mr. Chomos; I should have written long ago, when I was dismayed at the “magazine’s takeover” by certain parties. By March of 1986, the subtitle “Formerly the Eighth Hungarian Tribe” was missing — as well as much of the material and format of the Eighth Hungarian Tribe magazine. I personally feel that there must be knowledge of the language of Hungarians for Heritage to even be considered. Even names of persons and places are easily recognized as Hungarian. I miss the marks over the letters indicating their pronounciation. Thank you for publishing the Magyar Reader. Thank you for publishing some Hungarian in each magazine, with its appropriate title. Thank you for all of your efforts throughout your and all of the Board Members of the many years of trying to build the Foundation. Please continue the Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation! Please continue the Newsletter, with perhaps a column of current news in Hungarian, for the older members. I enclose $20.00 for membership in the Foundation and a donation. God bless and keep you. Sincerely, Jolán Rieke Hampton, New JErsey Many American Hungarians are passing away without an heir. Their wealth, properties, savings and insurance policies will revert to the states in which they are residing. If you, or someone you know, are in this situation, please inform that person about his or her option to name the Eighth 1'ribe Foundation as their respective heirs. Grimm was among the crew of 10 on a B-17 bomber that crash-landed in Hungary on January 21, 1945, during World War II. After Grimm reintiated contacts through a retired parish priest, five members of the crew were able to return to Hungary in August to thank the local villagers once again for providing food and shelter during a 23-day period. Among other things, the Americans were presented with a cabbage cutter that had been fashioned from parts of the downed plane, which was never recovered. A wreath was laid at the site of the crash. * * * The Chicago Symphony Orchestra extended their present Conductor, GEORG SOLTI’s contract through 1988-89 season. By then he will have been C.S.O.
