The Eighth Hungarian Tribe, 1986 (13. évfolyam, 1-12. szám)

1986-09-01 / 9-10. szám

MEETING OF THE HUNGARIAN EIGHTH TRIBE FOUNDATION August 30,1986 - Ligonier, Pennsylvania Discussion was held on how to join the Bethlen Home's future plan for erection of a Hungarian Heritage Institute. The plans for the Institute were presented by Rev. Pal Kovács, Administrator of the Bethlen Home, and Rev. Zoltán Kovács, Curator of the Bethlen Museum and Archive, which would be the name of the new Institute. Mr. William Kormos proposed that the word "Hungarian" should be inserted since Americans, or even Hungarian Americans of present/future generations will not associate the name "Bethlen" with their Hungarian Heritage. For this reason, it was suggested that we request the Building Committee change the name to "Bethlen Museum and Archive of Hungarian Heritage" or just "Museum of Hungarian Heritage". If identified as such in a AAA Tour Book or similar travel guide, it would be more likely to attract people passing through Ligonier, or through Pennsylvania on their vacation, who would be interested in seeing the Museum. Visitors to the Museum might make a one-time donation or choose to contribute yearly, which would help support the Museum financially, and they might tell their friends and relatives about the Museum. From the beginning, the objective of the HETF was to have a Heritage Institute in Ligonier. We feel that by joining in this project with the Bethlen Home, the Foundation's aim will be fulfilled. If the project is approved, a contribution will be requested from the members and friends of the Foundation. It was approval that all donations will be made to the Foundation, and the amount collected will be turned over as the Foundation's contribution for the erection of the new Museum. If this comes about, it is possible that the Foundation will be recognized in some manner in the Institute. This will secure a place for the Foundation’s memorabilia and membership on the new Institute’s Board of Directors. It was also emphasized that hopefully someday all the small individual Hungarian Heritage Museums, scattered throughout the United States, will find a permanent home at this new Institute. It was noted that, based on letters received, the Members are overwhelmingly in the favor of continuation of the Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation and support the Executive Officer. Due to health reasons, however, the present Executive Officer, Sándor E. Chomos, requested that consideration be given at this time for election of a replacement. It was recommended that a slate of officers be elected to distribute the work load of the Executive Officer, which includes being administrator, treasurer, secretary and preparing and mailing the Newsletters. Volunteers for these positions should send their names, addresses, telephone numbers and positions volunteered for by December 1,1986 to the Foundation's address. Although the Charter requires that the official address of the Foundation be in Pennsylvania, these duties can be done anywhere in the United States. Since most of the Members desire the Foundation to continue, volunteers for these positions are urgently needed. If there are no volunteers, the future of the Foundation is questionable! Sándor E. Chomos will remain Chairman of the Board of Directors. The attendance for this meeting W8s the lowest in number in the existence of the Foundation. Those arriving late were briefed by the Executive Officer. MEMBERSHIP, 1986 July and August Mary M. Cossa, Arlington, Virginia Marilyn L.
