EDITOR’S CORNER: SÁNDOR E. CHOMOS Many of our readers informed us that they are experiencing late delivery of the paper, especially in the New Jersey area, where the January issue was delivered almost 4 weeks later of the mailing date. We made inquiries at the local and at our area distribution center, and were told that the delay occurs at the main distribution center in New Jersey and at the local post offices. The Posted Law requires that a publication with mailing permit as ours should be delivered in New Jersey within 3 to 4 days, and through the whole continental United States in less than 10 days. We were informed by our readers in New Jersey, that the February issue was delivered in five days (discounting Sunday and Presidents’ Day), a real improvement. In the past we received inquiries from our readers who were interested in purchasing, or have someone make “Hungarian embroidered’’ dresses, etc. for them. Please read more information on this on the last page. The CHOMOS FAMILY wishes to thank all those who made Donations to their churches/favorite charities in memory of ANDREW CHOMOS, who passed away in Toledo, Ohio on December 16, 1984, also for the many Sympathy Cards. Box 637, Ligonier, PA 15658 FROM Dear Mr. Pulitzer: I am 100% in accordance with your views as expressed in your article: “An Open Letter Reply to Dr. Victor Molnár”. Furthermore, my view is that, if we want to nourish the Hungarian heritage in America, we can not sever the cultural and historical ties with the Old Country. There are deep political differences among the numerous Hungarian associations or groups in this country, and there are still deeper differences between those associations or groups and the actual political system in Hungary, but these differences should not interfere with the propagation of the Hungarian culture and heritage among the Hungarian Americans. Ferenc F. Sajgó Charlotte, North Carolina (Editor’s Note: The inflexible, ideo-political differences between special interests groups, within the Hungarian community in America, explains why it is that ethnical unification remains almost impossible to achieve. Moreover, a wide gap exists between the thinking of Americans of Hungarian lineage and Hungarians living in exile here in the United States in regards to how best to cope, in an even-handed manner, with the communist government of Hungary on the one hand and the people of Hungary on the other. That is to say, from a reportorial point of view.) Dear Sir: Enclosed is a check for our subscription to the Eighth Hungarian Tribe magazine. I came upon an old September issue. What a wonderful enlightening and interesting magazine. Especially for me because it was written in English. My husband was born in Szabadszallo and I am from Scotland. We have been to Hungary several times. I have no words to express the wonderful times we have had with his family, and the beautiful sights I have seen. Mrs. Marion Szabó Hazlet, New Jersey (Editor's Note: Being from Scotland, Mrs. Szabó is in the right ballpark. After all, Scotland did have a Hungarian queen.) Dear Sirs: Enclosed is a check for $25.00 for the 1985 renewal and dues for the Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation, for my wife and I. We wish you continued success in uniting ALL Hungarians for our common cause. We enjoy the magazine very much and eagerly look forward to it every month. Joseph J. Banks Nemacolin, Pennsylvania (Editor's Note: It is a letter like this, which makes the heavy investment in time, effort, and money for what seems to be a thankless job, worthwhile.) Dear Mr. Chomos: I am a continuous reader of the Eighth Hungarian Tribe and I have followed with great interest the various articles and viewpoints published in the past several years. As I read the most recent issue, I was very much encouraged by the viewpoints expressed and the increasing improvements in diversity of contents and your editorial stating the basic purposes of the magazine. I agree with these purposes. As one who has made extensive studies of the Hungarian immigrant experience and who is deeply aware of the current crisis confronting Hungarian-Americans, I believe I may be able to assist you in pursuing the directions you so well outlined in your editorial. Therefore, I would like to arrange a personal discussion with you, with the participation of Dr. Bela Biro. Sincerely yours, Paul Body MARCH, 1985 Page 3
