The Eighth Hungarian Tribe, 1985 (12. évfolyam, 1-11. szám)
1985-11-01 / 11. szám
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT TO ALL SUBSCRIBERS Starting with next month’s issue (December), the “Eighth Hungarian Tribe” magazine will no longer be published by the Bethlen Press, Inc. It will continue to be published under new corporate ownership, new editorial management, and under a new title. The new corporate owner will be the Rákóczi Press-International, Inc., the publishing subsidiary of the Rákóczi Foundation (Canada) and of the Rákóczi Foundation - International (USA). The new editorial management, including a prestigious Editorial Advisory Board, will be under the direction of the undersigned, and the new title of this publication will be the “HUNGARIAN HERITAGE REVIEW”, but sub-titled “Formerly the Eighth Hungarian Tribe”. The new corporate ownership and editorial management team of the “Hungarian Heritage Review” intend to provide its subscribers with more pages of reading matter and plan to increase its distribution throughout the United States and Canada, and the English speaking world. The editorial policy established by this magazine’s founders and maintained for almost 12 years by its editorial staff will be continued. It will continue to reach out for new generations of Hungarians, who, far outnumbering the old, are either American or Canadian-born, and can neither read, write, nor speak in Hungarian. Their language, of course, is English. Even so, it is this younger generation who are destined to become the custodians of and the preservers of the Hungarian heritage in the United States and Canada, and it is these people that this magazine will continue to be interested in and will continue to embrace. The “Eighth Hungarian Tribe” magazine was founded in 1974. It was the first and is the oldest of its kind serving the Hungarian community in America in general and its younger generations in particular. That it is still “alive” today in spite of almost insurmountable obstacles is due mainly to your supportive loyalty as subscribers and to the unshakeable determination and personal sacrifices endured for so many years by its co-founders, Sándor E. Chomos and Elias C. Chomos. Both of these deeply committed and sincerely concerned Hungarians, and the Bethlen Press, however, reached a point where, because of personal circumstances, they decided to pass on the “torch” they had lit almost 12 years ago to somebody else qualified, willing, and able to assume the burden. The improvements planned for this publication will increase the cost of its production and distribution. To help offset this increase, necessitates an increase in its subscription price from its present rate of $15 a year to $25 a year. HOWEVER, ALL THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY PAID THEIR SUBSCRIPTION FOR ONE YEAR AND AS OF DECEMBER 31st WILL NOT BE REQUIRED TO PAY THE DIFFERENCE IN THE RATE UNTIL THEIR SUBSCRIPTION EXPIRES. We hope that all of you will continue to support this magazine and its objectives, regardless of the change in its ownership, editorial management, and title.
