The Hungarian Nation when entering the Carpathian Basin in the ninth century A.D., was composed of seven tribes of Scythian-Sumerian origin. Hundreds of years later some of them left for a newly discovered land—this segment became the Eighth Tribe. To them, their descendents and to those joining them at a later date, this magazine is dedicated. The first issue of the Eighth Hungarian Tribe Magazine was published by Bethlen Press, Inc., April, 1974. THE EIGHTH TRIBE as a Gift Subscription to your Relatives and Friends! Dear Sirs; Several months, perhaps a year ago, your publication had a story about the late Father Kalman Kovats, who was Pastor of St. Stephens Church in McKeesport, Pa. for many years. It also had a write-up on the Divine Redeemer Convent in Elizabeth, Pa. I and several members would like to read this article again, but we cannot find our paper. Would you be kind enough to send it to me if you can. Thank you, Olga Kepes Pittsburgh, PA We have many back Issues, dated back to ten years, all these are available for our readers who lost theirs, or would like to give them to their friends or relatives as sample copies to have them acquainted with the magazine. — editor. Chomos, Editor SUBSCRIBERS COMPARED TO THE HUNGARIAN POPULATION BY STATE 1980 Census Recently a questionary was submitted to the editor from a research group working on status of different nationalities in the United States. In their letter and phone conversation they stated that they were referred to us to get a full picture of the Hungarian Community in the United States. During their research they found tremendous decline of membership in the Hungarian churches and national/local societies, also discovered that many churches listed in the 1930’s are no longer in existence. Because they received the EHT for many years, they were very surprised and called it unbelieveable, when they learned the number of subscribers to the magazine, and the membership in the Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation. They informed this editor that the nearby Croation Fraternal Union has over 100,000 members. We like to hear from our readers, and give opportunity to all Hungarian Americans to voice their opinion.
