But then the dream came— i AM AN AMERICAN The dream of America. In the light of the Liberty torch Elias Lieberman The atom of dust became a man And the straw in the wind became a woman For the first time. “ See,” said my father, pointing to the flag that fluttered near, “ That flag of stars and stripes is yours; It is the emblem of the promised land. It means, my son, the hope of humanity. Live for it — die for it! ” Under the open sky of my new country I swore to do so; And every drop of blood in me will keep that vow. I am proud of my future. I am an American. To them, their descendents and to those joining them at a later date, this magazine is dedicated. The first issue of the Eighth Hungarian Tribe Magazine was published by Bethlen Press, Inc., April, 1974. The Eighth Hungarian Tribe with subscribers in every State of the Union and Canada. Letters to the Editor Dear Sir; Enclosed are checks to the Statue of Liberty ($25.00). Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation ($25.00) and $15.00 for my renewal to the magazine. May I suggest that it would be more practical and be more useful if the address labels showed the subscription expiration date, instead of the year when the subscription first started. I enjoy the magazine immensely. Edward A. Mattie San Jose, California That Is why we ask our readers to check the second number which shows the month of renewal. — Editor. Dear Sir; We would like to join the Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation and also receive the Eighth Hungarian Tribe magazine. We are enclosing a check for $25.00 as requested in the magazine. A few months ago a nice Hungarian lady, Gabriella Richards, let us read her copy of the magazine. We have come to like it so much, that we want to receive it on our own. We had not heard of it before this. We both have Hungarian background. I still can speak Hungarian fluently and we also enjoy the helpful language lessons. It helps to refresh my vocabulary. Both my wife and I especially like the Hungarian Historical articles. We learned very little of Hungarian History from our parents. Your magazine is wonderful medicine for our pride in our Hungarian Heritage. You are fullfilling a great need. We thank you for your efforts. Sincerely yours, James P. and Katherine Bauer Whiting, New Jersey Dear Sir; Enclosed please find a check for $15.00 for a year subscription to the Eighth Hungarian Tribe magazine. We heard about it on a Hungarian Radio Program. Joseph E.
