A LADY ON THE GO Lane Nemeth In Martinez, California, eight years ago, Lane Nemeth had an idea which today became a $50 million in sales business. When she tried to buy and educational toy for her daughter, she found it difficult to get one. She knew they existed and she also knew there was a market for it. At first she thought she would open an educational toy store, then she changed her mind and dedided to sell toys through home demonstrations. She tried it with her acquaintances, and as it turned out, it worked. She borrowed $50,000 from friends and relatives and Discovery Toys became a reality. She had several hard and lean years, but the infusion of some venture capital put her on the road to success. Discovery Toys was outgrowing all expectations. Capital was no longer any problem, and she went into designing and making her own toys besides buying and importing them. The home office in Pleasant Hill, California has a staff of over 150 and throughout the country over 9,000 “educational consultants”. They sell her toys at home parties, to schools, day care centers and retail stores. Some of them make a few thousand dollars a year, others according to Nemeth make over $100,000 a year. If there are any would-be entrepreneours amongst our readers, contact Discovery Toys and try it. Rita’s vital statistics are: 35x23x36; Height:5.9 inches; Weight: 132 lbs. What is unusual in Rita’s case is that she was not officially entered in the contest, but was discovered by one of the Austrian organizers, who was struck by the blackhaired beauty on a trip to Hungary, and invited her to enter the contest for the Miss Europe title. Although Rita was already well known in Hungary as both a model and for appearing in many commercials, her success in Vienna has put the spotlight on this exceptionally women who would like to create a career for themselves. If it doesn’t work, you tried. According to Nemeth, you just take the first step and put one foot after the other attractive girl. Rita has been working for the Hungarian Fashion Institute for two years. Those who have seen her at fashion shows have been taken by the natural way in which she moves. She is popular among fashion designers because she knows exactly the kind of clothes she should wear and is quite happy to model them. When asked about her placing, her answer was: “After I’d been selected for the first six, I began to hope that I’d make it to the top three. Also, I had an additional advantage of being the only contestant with black hair — even Miss Spain was a blond.” As for the future: She is learning foreign languages, which will help her in her profession in other countries; also she will host the 1986 beauty contest, to be held in Hungary for the first time. and never make the same mistake twice. She must do something right with a $50 million business and growing. Who can knock it?
