Mrs. Elizabeth Mazura (Mrs. Stephen Mazura) Mrs. Elizabeth Mazura, Personnel, Budgets and Grants Administrator and Executive Assistant to the Dean of the School of Social Work, University of Pittsburgh, was honored with an elegant retirement cocktail party and dinner on December 6, 1983, in the Grand Ballroom of the William Pitt Student Union, which was filled to capacity by faculty, staff, students of the School of Social Work, administrators and colleagues of the University family, the Women’s Association of the University, and the Women’s International Club, and the Nationality Council of the Nationality Rooms of the University. She was recognized and honored by the School of Social Work for her thirty-five years of service at the University of Pittsburgh and especially for her twentyeight years of steadfast devotion to the School of Social Work, including every dean (4) in the School’s history to date. Her meticulous attention to detail and her loyalty were noted as hallmarks throughout a broad range of administrative and service endeavors in both the School and the University in a Proclamation. Mrs. Mazura has served as President of the Women's Association of the University, President of the Women’s International Club, Vice-President of the Hungarian Room Committee, and is currently President of the Nationality Council which encompasses the 29 Nationality Room Committees of the University. She has also been an active member of the Women’s Associations of the Pittsburgh Opera and the Pittsburgh Symphony since the 1940’s. In addition, she held various leadership roles in YWCA activities, was a speaker on behalf of Reverend Colman Kovats First pastor of St. Stephen's Church, McKeesport Mr. and Mrs. Mazura WQED and served on the charter committees for the Aspinwall and University Drive Veterans Hospitals. During World War 11, she was cited several times by the Treasury Department, for her leadership in promoting war bond sales under the Nationality Groups Division of the War Finance Committee of Western Pennsylvania. In fact, one of the things she would like to accomplish during her retirement is to collect all her memorabilia and records of her work during World War 11. and donate them to the archives of Hillman Library. In the American Hungarian community, Mrs. Mazura has been active since a teenager, participating in many Hungarian functions as a speaker. During World War 11, she was Chairman of the American Hungarian War Bond Committee of Western Pennsylvania, of the Nationality Groups Division of the War Finance Committee of the Treasury Department at which time her committee spurred sales of 8 million dollars in war bonds which were designed for the Michael de Kovats Liberty Ship, several ambulance trains and ambulance planes. She is also a past President (serving seven terms) of the Hungarian Professional Society, and was the Master of Ceremonies on the occasion of the celebration of the 1000th Anniversary of St. Stephen, first Christian King of Hungary held in Kennywood Park. For many years she has been active with the Hungarian Room Committee of the University of Pittsburgh and is currently Vice President. She was educated at the Grace Martin’s Business School, Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh. w o March, 1984 Page 7
