CLUB AN INVITATION TO GOLFERS UNION—Three American-Hungarians got together one day and decided that they were going to play golf in order to get some exercise. Since then, they have been “playing” (if one can call it that) at least once a week at The West Nine of the Plainfield Country Club. After each hilariously “strenuous” session, they graciously retire for some rest and relaxation at “The 19th Hole” called the Garwood Rest (where the beer is the best) on South Avenue in Garwood. There, they conduct a seminar on why they didn’t score a par game of 72 strokes, how to do much better the next time out, and on how many good shots each really made. While gobbling lunch washed down with plenty of Budweiser, of course. The three would-be champs of the fairways are Harry G. Ladanye, Paul Pulitzer, and Frank Hidi, who also double in brass as members of the American-Hungarian Citizens Club of Rahway — which by the way, is NOT located in Rahway, but in Clark, New Jersey. At any rate, the trio of golfers, who use “Hussar language” when they make a bad putt, have enjoyed their weekly outing so much this past season that they would like to share some of it with others come early Spring. So, if you play February 1984 NEWS golf, or would like to learn how, drop a line or two to PAUL PULITZER, P.O. Box 2203, Union, New Jersey 07083. Who knows? Maybe an American- Hungarian Duffers Club may come out of it.
