The Eighth Hungarian Tribe, 1984 (11. évfolyam, 1-12. szám)
1984-02-01 / 2. szám
A FEW WORDS FROM THE EDITOR Our magazine’s January issue introduced this new section. It is devoted, as you see, to featuring articles about and of interest to the American-Hungarian Community in New Jersey. To assure a greater audience for its debut and to acquaint local readers with “THE EIGHTH HUNGARIAN TRIBE” magazine, the number of copies distributed throughout the state have been considerably increased. This rotation process of controlled public exposure will be continued until a substantial list of paid subscribers is developed statewide within a reasonable length of time. As we go on with this monthly endeavor, we hope to improve upon this section’s editorial content by expanding coverage to include a greater variety of “newsworthy” subjects. We are also programming ways and means to obtain and publish informative articles about the American-Hungarian communities of New York and Philadelphia. Meanwhile, we need your assistance in order to make this national publication a real editorial “voice” of the American-Hungarian Community of the State of New Jersey as well. You, the reader, can be a big help to us in this aim simply by being on the alert for news items about fellow American-Hungarians published in your local hewspaper, clipping them, and then sending them on to us. We would also welcome submissions of feature articles, stories, poems, etc. written by local authors, but which have never been published before. An important feature, we believe, is our “CLUB NEWS” section. It is intended not only to let our readers know what is going on when and where, but also to provide clubs and all kinds of organizations with a COST-FREE opportunity to publicize their activities. To take advantage of this cost-free opportunity, all interested groups have to do is to add our name and address to their mailing lists to receive copies of newsletters, announcements of affairs, and the like. Our address can be found in the Masthead below. Like any other kind of enterprise, publishing and distributing this publication is also a business. And, like any other kind jof business, it cannot remain in business unless it has enough customers to keep it open for business. In our case, our “customers” are subscribers and advertisers. Consequently, we must seek the advertising support of American-Hungarian business people in New Jersey and the subscription support of all those who have recently received a complimentary copy of this publication and who will receive the same in the future. Our reasonable advertising rates are available upon request and our subscription rates are only $15.00 a year. Your support for this — THE ONLY PUBLICATION OF ITS KIND IN AMERICA — would be greatly appreciated. FROM Dear Editor: My parents, both of whom are of Hungarian parentage, were born here in the United States. So was I. But, even though both of my parents can speak, read, and write in Hungarian, I can’t. Neither can my children. However, I, as well as my children, are aware of our Hungarian lineage and are eager to learn as much as we can about it. We also want to keep up with what other people like us are doing here in New Jersey and elsewhere. It is for this reason that I was delighted to receive a copy of your publication which is mostly in English, interesting to read, and informative. My subscription is enclosed. Mrs. Vicki Gyuga Hopatcong, New Jersey Dear Editor: Your New Jersey section hit the spot. It fills a great need that was waiting to be filled for a long time. There’s lots going on in this state within the American- Hungarian community and now we will be able to keep up with it. Please enter my subscription for 1984. Eugene Nemeth New Brunswick, New Jersey Dear Editor: Congratulations on a job well done. Once American-Hungarians in New Jersey become acquainted with your publication, I am sure that they will support it. You’ve got my support and that is for sure.
