ttuav.ittr A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE NEWLY ORGANIZED UNITED HUNGARIAN-AMERICAN COMMITTEE FOR THE RESTORATION OF THE STATUE OF LIBERTY-ELLIS ISLAND My fellow Hungarian-Americans: Representatives from Hungarian clubs, churches, and organizations in New Jersey met recently to form the UNITED HUNGARIAN-AMERICAN COMMITTEE FOR THE RESTORATION OF THE STATUE OF LIBERTY-ELLIS ISLAND for the purpose of launching a coordinated fundraising drive, within the Hungarian community in America, to help defray some of the $230-million cost of restoring both of these symbols of what America stands for throughout the world. This meeting was sponsored by the Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation in collaboration with the American-Hungarian Citizens Club of Rahway (New Jersey). The founding organizations include the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, the Hungarian Reformed Church in America, the Eastern Area Elders Association, the Free Magyar Reformed Church of Linden, the Hungarian Reformed Church of Perth Amboy, the Assumption Roman Catholic Church of Irvington, the American-Hungarian Citizens Club of Rahway, and the Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation. Many other Hungarian clubs, churches, and organizations in New Jersey have already notified us of their intentions to join. However, membership in our newly formed committee is open not only to all clubs, churches, and organizations in the State of New Jersey, but also to every Hungarian club, church, and organization throughout the United States. We, here in New Jersey, are only the originators of this movement. We want and expect everyone to join with us so that, together, we can make a meaningful contribution, in the name of the Hungarian community in America, towards the restoration of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, both of which have such great significance in our lives. Many othgr ethnic communities have already gotten together to make such a contribution and there is no reason why we, Hungarian- Americans, cannot do the same. The newly elected, officers of our committee are Louis Ruskay, Chairman; Rev. Stafan M. Torok, Vice- Chairman; Priscilla Hunyady, Secretary-Treasurer; and Paul Pulitzer, Director of Public Relations. Hungarian clubs, churches, and organizations interested in joining the committee can obtain further information by writing to: United Hungarian-American Committee for the Restoration of the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island, P.O. Box 2203, Union, New Jersey 07083. Looking forward to your response to my invitation, I remain, Sincerely yours, Louis Ruszkay Chairman
