The Eighth Hungarian Tribe, 1984 (11. évfolyam, 1-12. szám)

1984-12-01 / 12. szám

EIGHTH HUNGARIAN TRIBE MAGAZINE UPDATE After considerable market research to determine what kind of magazine would be of greater interest to and more aceptable by the category of readership the Eighth Hungarian Tribe magazine has targeted as its primary audience, a decision was recently reached to reformat the publication and to improve the quality of its content to make it more "readable" everywhere. The previous dominance of the 12-page New Jersey section has been curtailed as of this issue, more feature articles of general interest will be published instead, and "news" will be presentd within an expanded "Hungarian Life-Line" section. Another change effective with this issue, is that Sándor E. Chomos will be the Editor-in-Chief of the magazine while Paul Pulitzer will be its Managing Editor. Other staff changes can be found in this issue's Masthead page. A "newsworthy" item to report is that the Eighth Hungarian Tribe magazine, in cooperation with Fugazy-International Travel, Pan American Airlines, and Ibusz, will be sponsoring a "HISTORICAL TOUR OF HUNGARY" during the summer of 1985. The details of this outstanding, three-week tour will be announced in a later issue. Meanwhile, please let us know if you would like to receive a copy of the brochure when ready. The improvements planned for upgrading the quality and acceptability of the Eighth Hungarian Tribe magazine does not mean that we have solved all* of our financial problems. It does mean, however, that, because of the growth we have experienced during the past 12 months, we look forward to the New Year with confidence. One of the most pressing problems confronting us at this time, is how to increase the number of our pages from 20-24 to at least 28-32 in order to provide our subscribers with a greater variety of interesting reading matter. Such an increase, of course, means a substantial addition to our production and mailing costs. Surprisingly, however, we could resolve this problem easily if we could get at least 1200 more subscribers nationwide, if our present subscribers would not be so slow in sending in their renewals, and if each of our present subscribers would try to get us only one (1) new subscriber from among family members or friends. This kind of assistance would not only solve one of our most frustrating problems, but it would also mean that, for the first time in its 11-year-old history, the Eighth Hungarian Tribe magazine would become selfsustaining ! In the first section of this Special Newsletter, we brought you up to date on the recent reorganization and reactivation of The Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation. We also informed you about its sponsorship of the formation of the UNITED HUNGARIAN-AMERICAN COMMITTEE FOR THE RESTORATION OF THE STATUE OF LIBERTY-ELLIS ISLAND, a project which is already underway. Many of you, of course, are only subscribers to this magazine and are not members of the Foundation. But you should be and now is the time for you to become a member! December, 1984 Page 11
