Who could have imagined that, just 14 years later, my old friend from Ligonier, PA., Debbie Mays, would become the wife of ex-football superstar Joe Namath? She's 22; he’s 41. They dated for 15 months before tying the knot. She’s an actress; he’s now an actor. Their voice coach brought them together. You win, Debbie. Congratulations. Even if I move to Hawaii and become a corporate executive and marry Loni Anderson, you will still be ahead of me because you’ve reached the pinnacle of success first. Bob Chomos There was this cute girl in my second grade class. Debbi and I were always competing and trying to outdo each other. We were both the teacher’s pets, always coming in early to see if there was anything we could do to help out Mrs. Drenner. We both strove for top grades and extracurricular achievement. Until recently, I thought I had come out ahead of Debbie, or at least even with her, as far as success is concerned. MARTIN and ELIZABETH SZEKERESH. FAMILY GATHERING — Martin and Elizabeth Szekeresh of Mundy's Corner are surrounded by their 12 children who gathered for a 70th birthday anniversary celebration for Mr. Szekeresh. Mr. Szekeresh and the former Elizabeth Shuagis (Süveges) were married May 13, 1934 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Nanty Glo, Pa., by Rev. T. J. Marcinek. Their parents immigrated from Hungary, Martin born in Twin Rocks, son of the late John and Anna Szekeres. Elizabeth was born in Watkins, PA„ daughter of the Late Joseph Shuagis and of Mrs. Theresa Shuagis, now of Florida, who celebrated her 99th birthday in September. Martin and Elizabeth are the parents of 12 living children, there are 37 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Martin did not finish his high school education, but he went back to school last year at the age of 72, and on June 29 of this year, he received his high school equivalency diploma. A special and highly priced gift was a quilt, made by two of their daughters, with the family tree forming the center. All around the tree is a patch for each child, one for each grandchild, one for every event in the couple's life. Debrah and Bob — 1969. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Namath. December, 1984 Page 5
