We hope that the Eighth Tribe will have a very successful year in all its endeavors. We February 1984 THE EDITORS CORNER:— First of all, the editor would like to thank all those who expressed their “get-well wishes” personally on the phone or through the mail. My gratitude to those who prepared the December and January issues. ********** We would like to welcome our new readers from New Jersey. With the New Jersey Section we are on our way to achieving our goal — to have regional representation in the paper. Besides this coverage, we will continue with our regular presentations from the many thousands of years of History of the Hungarian Nation, and we will also bring you the achievements of Hungarian Americans in the United States and Canada. The New Jersey Section is edited by Mr. Paul Pulitzer. We are also happy to report that Dr. Bela Biro of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will be the Managing Editor of the Western Pennsylvania Tri-State-Area Section. The California West Coast Section will be edited by Prof. Joseph Szurcsik and his associates. These new sections will start in one of the coming issues. If anyone wishes to insert an item in the paper, please get in touch with them; their addresses can be found in the Masthead. We hope that in a few months we can have more sections, including one for our Canadian readers. We also instituted limited advertising; please get the rates from the Section Managing Editors. Officially, the 1980 Census showed almost one million, eight-hundred-thousand persons of Hungarian origin in the United States. With the Canadian Hungarians, we number over two million. How many of these people this magazine can reach is up to you. Recently, we received seven gift-subscriptions from a reader for their children and grandchildren, scattered over the United States. That is the best way to build-up this magazine, by a personal touch. If this is your first acquaintance with this magazine, welcome aboard, and let our relationship be a long one. ********** The Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation On page two, you can read about the Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation: its purpose and its aim. Our first project is to make this magazine financially solvent for the future. It is well-known that, with the present number of subscribers, it is impossible to achieve this. That is why it was suggested in the January issue by “Kolozsvári” as he challenged at least 1,000 subscribers, individuals, societies and churches to donate at least $ 100.00 per year until this goal is achieved. Currently, we do not have the financial ability for long range planning, unless we receive your support. After the magazine is made secure for the future, the second project is the establishment of a Hungarian Educational and Cultural Institute to preserve all the worthwhile artifacts of our churches and societies. We all know that the present Hungarian American life as we know it will disappear, including our churches and societies. So to preserve the rich heritage we received from our parents and grandparents, this Institute is to be created, so our children, grandchildren and other Americans will be able to visit, and to learn about a small nation, that played an important role in the history of the Earth and of America. To all Officers, Board Members, regular Members, and all interested persons, readers of this magazine, please let the Executive President of the HETF know if the Memorial Day weekend, May 26, 27 and 28 would be suitable for a Conference and Foundation Meeting. would also wish Mr. Sándor E. Chomos a To all the staff and membership, we complete and successful recovery from wish the best of health and happiness his operation. f°r 1984. Respectfully yours Joseph J. and Ethel Banks Page 3 SUBSCRIBERS: Please send your RENEWAL to the main office.
