BOOK REVIEW — by — Harry 0. Ladanye HUNGARIAN CONTRIBUTIONS TO WORLD CIVILIZATION - by -Francis S. Wagner Alpha Publications 1977 Center Square, Penn. When the author made a preliminary study, “Hungarian Contributions to American Culture”, he was encouraged by its insertion in the Congressional Record (9/30/75). Finding that there were so many Hungarian contributions to world civilization, he extended his research into this volume in which he attempts to put into historical perspective the intellectural contributions of the Hungarians. To all, who share the pride of Hungarian ancestry, it is a pleasure and a revelation to be made aware of the numerous and significant contributions of the Hungarians. An excellent chapter is devoted to the main phases in intellectual growth which traces the development from the time our ancestors were a nomadic pastoral society to the post-World War I and World War II periods. It is a splendid summary. Mr. Wagner then details a voluminous array of contributions in the mathematical and physical sciences, the historical and social sciences, the arts, and sports. I can truly say that everyone will be as amazed as I was at how much richer world civilization is due to these many, many Hungarian contributions, all of which are based on documentary evidence and historical facts. As a bonus, there is a selected bibliography of over 350 volumes for those who may want or need more details on the many topics covered. A valuable index of important documents is also provided. This, to be sure, is an excellent resource book!
