CLUB NEWS The “Gunslingers” and “Rodsmen” of the H.A.A.C. Rod and Gun Club. H.A.A.C. Rod and Gun Fosters Firearm Safety In The Field NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — According to Joe Rózsahegyi, the president of the Hungarian American Athletic Club’s Rod and Gun Club, firearms safety in the field is just as important as being an expert marksman or hunter. “Handling a firearm properly is the key to safe skeet shooting, target practice, or hunting,” he said. “The responsible user of a firearm, whether for skeet shooting, target practice, or hunting, lessens the chance of an accident by following some basic rules of firearm safety. That is why all of our members are required to learn firearm safety measures as prescribed by the National Rifle Association. After all, guns are not toys. They must be treated with respect.” Comprised of 18 members, the club does not field a team which competes in meets. Instead, they participate in a sport that preserves a part of their Hungarian heritage when hunting and fishing were means of survival. “The team spirit, however, is the same with us as in any sport,” Rózsahegyi pointed out, “for we hunt and fish in groups with the same spirit in mind.” The H.A.A.C. Rod and Gun Club has its own range off Weston Road in Franklin Township not far from the city August, 1984 limits of New Brunswick, leases 160 acres of woodland in Hunterdon County (New Jersey), and has hunting privileges on 260 acres in upstate New York. “When the hunting season is over, we go fishing together and have the same amount of fun,” Rózsahegyi said. A limited number of memberships are still available. If interested, call Joe Rózsahegyi at 201-246-9615. Three members of the H.A.A.C.
