SOCIETY NEWS Hungarian American Culture Club, Louisville, Kentucky Our Club just became member of the Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation, some of our members are subscribers to the magazine. While reading the magazine we discovered that 90% of the news and information concerns New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Since there are readers in many other states we thought we share some of our ideas and events, and maybe other clubs could do the same to make the magazine more valuable to a larger area of the U.S. We would like to invite every one to visit Louisville, KY on September 2 and 3, which is Hungarian Heritage weekend on the Belvedere, downtown on the Riverfront. Our Club is small, only about 30 families, but every one is a willing, eager, excited participant and we are able to accomplish many things that others wouldn’t attempt, and this Heritage Weekend proves it. At the Labor Day Heritage we will have a castle replica over 8 feet tall and 24 feet long, to display our historical artifacts in. There is a topography map 3 feet square, all lighted to show the cities and borders of the old Hungary and the new. The castle will be filled with oilpaintings depicting the history of Hungary, along with many articles from the collections of members. Our souvenier stand won’t carry the same type of things promoted by other countries at their Heritage’s, ours are all handmade Arts and Crafts with Hungarian motives and Hungarian designs so that our visitors will be able to purchase unique hand made gifts. Several of our members have the traditional Hungarian costumes, which they will wear, plus our workers will be dressed neatly and uniformly and most will have aprons all alike with a Hungarian design. Our food booth itself will be decorated with the Coat of Arms, and the National Flag of Hungary, plus the whole front outlined in red, hand-painted floral design panels. These are just the highlights of all we’ve been working on. There are many other things already prepared that are too numerous to mention. So we would like to invite you to come and see for yourself if you are living in the neighboring states or if you are on a vacation trip! We could not accomplish any of this without a total membership commitment and compatability. We all really enjoy each other, and are so proud of our Club, so each and every one gives of their time and energies to make our Club the greatest Ethnic club in the Greater Louisville area. Each year we add a little more to make things more interesting for visitors, who show an interest in our Heritage, instead of like many ethnic groups who chose to go only after the monetary benefits of a Heritage Weekend. We are striving to make every one “Remember the Hungarians!” We’d like to ask for the addresses of other Clubs in our area: Ohio, Tennesse, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, so that we may correspond with them and share ideas. Join us on September 2--3--Labor Day Weekend at the Belvedere, in Louisville, Kentucky. We’ll be easy to find. Out Club address is: c/o Louis Torok, 1315 Buckman Street, Shepherdsville, KY 40165. Mr. Torok is the president of our Club. Nancy Whitley MISS MAGYAR August, 1984 Moments before the judges’ decision is announced, the contestants nervously await to be introduced to the audience.
