The purpose of this international meeting is to acquaint the participants with the work and aims of the Federation and for the delegates to provide information about their organization’s objectives and activities designed to achieve them. The Conference agenda will be augmented with a full program of educational, cultural, and social gettogethers, including sight-seeing opportunities. The sponsors of this conference will pay all hotel and meal costs for each delegate, which means that each delegate will have to pay for his or her air-travel costs. Page 14 Hungarian National Theatre Building Fund Continues To Grow The global fund-raising drive launched to help finance the cost of building a new Hungarian National Theatre got a big boost recently when Lucy Moori Brooks of Los Angeles, California, who once attended the Hungarian Academy of Dramatic Arts with Hilda Gobbi and performed with her on the Hungarian stage, sent in a donation of $25,000 (USA). The fund now stands at 20,643,055 Forints. “Dobostorta” Centennial One hundred years ago this year, Joseph C. Dobos, a cook and grocery story operator, concocted a recipe for a special kind of cake. What came out of his oven, was the “Dobostorta”, which became so popular that orders for it soon poured into Hungary from all over the world. Because it was such a great financial success, imitations soon appeared, but none of them could equal the taste of the original. That is because the inventive Dobos kept his recipe secret until 1906, when he gave it to the Hungarian Baker’s Guild to carry it on for him. There is only one genuine “Dobostorta” and it is made to this very day in accordance with the recipe formulated by Joseph C. Dobos. This year, more Hungarians will be eating “Dobostorta” than ever before to celebrate its 100th Birthday. High School Students Seek “Pen Pals ” “We are two Hungarian boys living in Budapest. We are both 18 and we will sit for the school-leaving examination this year. We are interested in learning languages and we’d like to write in English to boys and girls of our age. We love sports of all sorts, both as participants and spectators. One of us has been playing tennis for nine years, and the other one has been sailing for some years. Is there anybody who shares the same interests? If you want to be our pen pals, write to us at these addreses: Gabor Gerlits, Gerloczy Utca 11, Budapest 1052, Hungary; and Zsolt Fekete, Akacfa U.6, Budapest 1072, Hungary.” New Hungarian Stamps The Hungarian Post Office issued a new series displaying health and recreation resorts. The stamps were produced on the basis of designs by Paul Varga. The set is made up of 1, 2, and 5 forint denominations showing views of Zanka, Hajduszoboszlo, and Heviz respectively. A set of stamps and a block were issued to commemorate the Sarajevo Winter Olympic Games. The seven stamps and a block of 20 forint nominal value were designed by László Dudás. Visitor Rules Eased Western tourists visiting Hungary with Austrian or Hungarian travel agencies for 48-hours only no longer will need visas. Such short-time visitors will be issued special “48-Hour Sightseeing Entry Permits” upon presentation of valid passports. However, tourists from France, who are on Hungarianorganized group tours and have an identity card and visa, will not be required to have a passport.
