Mr. Deak is an economist who emigrated from Hungary and Switzerland to the United States in the late 1930’s and built his reputation in the post-World War II economy by arranging complicated barter agreements among governments. Discharged from the U.S. Army in 1946 with the rank of Major, he started to build his network that today has over 70 offices worldwide. In the Western Hemisphere, Deak- Perera is the oldest and largest foreign currency exchange firm and retail distributor of precious metals. The firm also has controlling interest in two U.S. banks and banks in Switzerland and Austria. • At 78, Mr. Deak runs three to five miles every day, and up to ten miles on weekends! Deak-Perera buys and sells currency and 120 different kinds of travelers checks in just as many languages. They sell gold bullion, gold coins, gold certificates, and gold investment jewelry.
