They may or may not be in agreement with the editorial policy of this magazine.- Editor THE EDITORS CORNER:— With deep sorrow we have to report the passing of Dr. Tibor Bodi of Philadelphia, PA. Besides being Secretary of the HETF, and Hungarian Commissioner on the Governor’s Ethnic Commission of Pennsylvania, he was active in many other Hungarian organizations. Dr. Bodi died on April 27, 1984. He was born in 1919 at Marosludas, Transylvania. He is survived by his wife, Frances Stein Bodi, whom he married while he was on the staff of the Newport, Rhode Island Hospital. In 1953 they moved to Philadelphia, PA. They had six children: Lorrain, Kathy, Tibor, Stephen, John and Peter. In behalf of the readers of this magazine, and the members of the HETF, we convey our deep regret to the Bodi Family on loss of husband and father-and, for us, a friend. ************************************************* We are very disappointed with the action of the Hungarian Government to withdraw from the Los Angeles Olympics during this summer. Our fathers and grandfathers told us about the achievements of the Hungarian athletes in the past. So we, of Hungarian descent, were looking forward to greet and to cheer our Hungarian brethren from the land of our forefathers. We hear that the Rumanian Government decided to send their athletes to the Olympics, we wonder and would like to know the real reasons for the statement of withdrawal issued by the Hungarian Government. Hungary’s hostility toward the U.S. does not carry much weight with Hungarian Americans. The Hungarian Government is expecting over 100 thousand visitors to Hungay from Canada and the United States this year. Is it too far fetched for us, Hungarian Americans, to expect that Hungary will reciprocate by sending the Hungarian athletes to Los Angeles, just for the benefit of Hungarian Americans, just like other artists came to America and we greeted them and accepted them with open arms and love. ********************************************* From Joseph Szurcsik, Managing Editor of the Western Section: I am very sorry that I cannot attend the third Hungarian Heritage Conference. But I am happy to report, that the second branch on our Heritage Tree shortly will be a blossomed branch. The Hungarian Americans West of the Rockies will join hand in hand with our eastern brethren in the work of the Hungarian Eighth Tribe Foundation and the Eighth Hungarian Tribe Magazine. Our learning and reading about each other will create a closer tie between us, even though we live in different parts of the United States and Canada. Our Section will be called: American-Hungarians West of the Rockies. Presently we are forming our staff, which will cover different states and regions. Our news will cover the activities of the Hungarian Societies; achievements of Hungarian individuals, present and past, in the history of the Western part of the United States; and outstanding literary works of Hungarian origin. It is our belief that in a short time we’ll be able to increase the membership of the HETF and the subscribership of the magazine. We ask the present readers of the magazine who are living in our region to help us in our effort, for every beginning has to travel on a rocky road.
