February, 1983 THE EIGHTH HUNGARIAN TRIBE Page 13 Names in the News:— Many times looking through the newspaper, one comes upon a news item about a person whose name sounds Hungarian. So you followed it up and you have a news item for the Eighth Tribe magazine. Gretchen Bartos, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clem Bartos of Blairsville, Pennsylvania has a special relationship with animals. She also has her own horse ‘Black Velvet’ together they participated in district 4-H competitions the last six years. Hours of practice and private lessons have not gone unrewarded; Gretchen has several awards to hér crédit. Through 4-H research projects, the 18-year old has gained valuable insight into the fields of animal disease, anatomy and disection, preparing her for a career in veterinary medicine. Hér father a chemist at Blairsville Westinghouse, sparked his daughter’s interest in the sciences at an early ágé. A participant in the Summer Happening program at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Gretchen explored yet another science — the underwater world of marine biology. She is planning to attend the Pennsylvania State University majoring in biological science and later on in a veterinary school. An accomplished musician, she plays French horn in concert band and has attended the all-county band festival. Gretchen grandparents came from a former part of the Hungarian Kingdom, now called Slovakia. ERNEST KÖNNYŰ of Saratoga, California has been reelected to the California State House for his term. He is the son of Prof, and Mrs. László Könnyű of St. Louis, Missouri.
