ESZTERLÁNC HUNGARIAN FOLK ENSEMBLE San Francisco, California Purpose of the Ensemble is to learn about all aspect of Hungarian folk culture; to educate the public about Hungarian folk cutture. Public par­ticipation is encouraged through workshops, Tánc­ház (folk dance house), and working with other individuals and groups to promote Hungarian folk/ cultural events. Repertoire of Eszterlánc includes recreation folk dances, dance cycles from various regions of old Hungary, as well as choreographies from Hungary, and material taught by the Hungarian-American choreographers Eva Kish, who founded the ensemble and Kálmán Magyar, the founder of the American Hungarian Folk Art Centrum. Rehearsals of the ensemble áré held once a week for three hours. Members learn Hungarian folk dances, folk songs and the background infor­mation relating to the dances studied.Outside-of­­rehearsals work includes researching information on the costumes of different regions, and folklore in general, the making of costumes and props for per­formances. Of the many achievments the last four years, the most notable is the annual Grape Harvest Festival presented each year. They permormed at various Hungarian balls and activities in the Bay Area, as well as at San Francisco State University, the Stanford Spring Faire, Sacramento’s Camelia
