It draws from a common Christian heritage its belief in God the Father Almighty, His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour and the Bible. Its distinctive theology is based on two of the great documents of the Reformation. The Free Hungarian Reformed Church Synod has two creeds — “The Heidelberg Catechism” and “The Second Helvetic Confession.” These two creeds are the distinguishing marks of all our members who confess this faith. The Free Hungarian Reformed Church Synod, in addition to its religious side, has a distinctive national and cultural heritage. During its entire history, the Hungarian realm has welcomed all people who wanted to work in harmony with them toward common goals. Over the centuries a rich national and cultural heritage evolved that distinguishes Hungarians from other groups. The unique mission of the Free Hungarian Reformed Church Synod is to gather, preserve and transmit to future generations, who live outside the boundaries of present day Hungary, its religious, national and cultural heritage. It will survive as a separate body only as long as it remains faithful to its dual heritage. We respect the religious, national and cultural heritage of all people and nations in so far as they are willing to extend to us the same treatment. We are an inclusive and not an exclusive Christian body. We welcome all individuals and existing churches, wherever they may be, who share our religious beliefs and creeds as well as our national and cultural heritage, into our common fellowship. The Free Hungarian Reformed Church Synod is a dynamic, growing fellowship of Christians. We will preach and teach to all those who will listen about our unique dual heritage. We will train preachers and teachers to serve not only our existing organizations, but to also go out and establish new centers of fellowship when and wherever two or three are willing and able to gather in his name. We will serve our members in whatever way we can as long as it is compatible with our dual heritage. By our faith and work we shall be recognized. We believe that each of our members is part of the priesthood of all believers. We believe that by our teaching and preaching in and through the Free Hungarian Reformed Church Synod we can and will become an effective instrument for the Glory of God.
