1 Fage 2 April, 1982 WHAT IS THE EIGHTH TRIBE? The Hungarian Nation when entering the Car­pathian Basin in the 9th century A.D. was composed of seven Magyar tribes of Scythian origin. Many hundreds years later some of the people left Hun­gary for a newly discovered land — and this segment became the Eighth Tribe. To those who were bom in this land, speaking or not the Hungarian language, Reformed, Lutheran, Catholic or any other faith, even if only a trace of Hungarian origin in them, to these this Magazine is dedicated. There are many social activities pursued by today’s generation to further or keep up some of the Hungarian customs in their own respective areas. We would like to bring all these to our readers, so they know what is happening in Pittsburgh, Cleve­land, Detroit, Chicago, New York, Florida and Cali­fornia or wherever it may be. Send us pictures and descriptions of your groups. There are many of the second and third genera­tion, who have achieved distinguished fame in their fields. We would like to bring this to the attention of our readers, so all of us can be proud of their achievements. The first issue of The Eighth Tribe was pub­lished April, 1974. Banes, Attorney 1009 Duquesne Boulevard Ouquesne, PA. 15110 CHARTER NOTICE Notice is hereby given thar Ar­ticles of Incorporation were filed with the Department of State of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on March 9, 1912# for the purpose of obtaining a Certificate of Incorporation for a proposed non-profit corporation. The name of the Corporation Is HUNGARIAN EIGHTH TRIBE FOUNDA­TION, having Its registered of­fice at West Plaza, Llgonier, Pa. 15656. It Is organized under the Non-Profit Corporation Law of the Commonwealth of Penn­sylvania, approved November IS, 1972, being Act No. 271. The purpose of purposes for which the Corporation Is organized are: (a) Foster the Hungarian Heri­tage In America. (b) Establish and maintain a Hungarian Cultural and Educational Institute In Llgonier, Pennsylvania. (c) Encourage contributions to* ward the establishment and maintenance of the Institute. (d) Publish a lournel for the purpose of disseminating cultur­al, literary, and educatinal information. (e) Preserve historical materi­als relating to the Hungarian American Heritage. The Corporation does not con­template pecuniary gain, or profit, incidental or otherwise, to Its members. (a) The corporation Is orgainzed and shall be operated exclusively for the purposes set forth In Paragraph (3). Inrfur­therance of such purposes, It may promote, establish, con­duct. and maintain activities on its own behalf or It may con­tribute to or otherwise assist other corporations, organiza­tions, and Institutions carrying on such activities or any there­of; and for such purposes It may solicit and receive funds and other property, real, per­sonal, and mixed, and interests therein, by 01ft, transfer, de­vise, or bequest, and Invest, reinvest, hold, manage, admin­ister, expend and apply such funds and property, sublect to such conditions and limitations, if any, as may be expressed In any instrument evidencing such gift, transfer, devise, or bequest. (b) No part of the Income or principal of the corporation shall inure to the benefit of or be distributed to any member, director, or officer of the corporation or any other private individual, but reimbursement for expenditures or the payment of reasonable compensation for the /services rendered shall not be a distribution of income or principal. The corporation shall not carry on propaganda, or otherwise attempt to influence legislation. (c) This corporation Is to be organized and operated as a corporation which will qualify under and be sublect to the limitations of Section 501 (c) (3) of the United States inter­nal Revenue Code, as said sec­tion may be amended from time to time. The purposes and powers of this corporation are those granted by the aforemen­tioned Pennsylvania Non-Profit Corporation Law, as It may be amended from time to time, without limiting the generality of the foregoing, to receive, hold, sell, Invest and reinvest such funds and property as It may from time to time receive as gifts, donations, or other­wise, from any corporation, partnership or Indvldlual, and to disburse any part of Its prin­cipal and Income, In the discre­tion of its Board of Directors as contributions or donations for the purposes aforesaid, within or without the United States of America, and for these purposes to have, possess and enloy all the rights, benefits and privileges of said Act of Assembly.
