and religious institutions. Under the above laws, the government summarily nationalized all “documents, official and private correspondence, memoirs, manuscripts, maps, films, slides, photos, recordings, diaries, Manifestos, posters, sketches, drawings, engravings, imprints, seals, and like material over 30 years old” confiscating them from the possession of regigious and cultural institutions as Well as private citizens. The Swiss daily, Neue Züricher Zeitung, reported this outrage under the title: “BUREAUCRATIC CHICANERY AGAINST THE CHURCHES IN RUMANIA” (Feb. 1 and Feb. 2, 1975): “The intent behind the nationalization of the ecclesiastical archives is to sever the religious communities from their historic roots. A church without a past and without tradition has no future, especially one which represents a religious and national minority. The first victim of these warlike designs agains the religou8 and cultural minorities by the Rumanian regime was the Hungarian Reformed (Presbyterian) Church in the northern districts of Oradea, Satumare, Baia-Mare and Zalau. Here, in the mother country of the Reformation in Transylvania, government agents seized the archives of more than two hundred church communities, loaded them onto trucks without, receipt and carted them away.” “The multinational region of Transylvania has a long heritage of religious freedom. It was here that fredom of religion was written into law first time in history, in 1568. It is indeed a shame that 400 years later the very country and the very nation which achieved the first victory over medieval bigotry is being thrown back into the dark ages by the despotic Balkan mentality of a recently created Rumania.” DO NOT RENEW PREFERRED NATION STATUS TO RUMANIA UNTIL AT LEAST THE FOLLOWING DEMANDS ARE MET: 1. The recognition of the Hungarian language in Transylvania as second official language. 2. The re-establishment of the Hungarian Autonomous Regions under strictly Hungarian administration. 3. The re-establishment of all Hungarian educational institutions. 4. The return of all confiscated libraries, archives and museums. 5. The return of old Hungarian cemeteries under the care of the Hungarian churches. 6. The termination of job-discrimination. 7. The termination of all haTassments and intimidations in relation to nationality. These demands are the basic minimum the native population of Transylvania can expect in a civilized world! PUZZLING STATISTICS Comparing data furnished by the “Office of Statistics” in Kolozsvár—Cluj—Napoca, Transylvania, concerning the 1943 and 1977 census, we notice that while the Hungarian population seems to be disappearing, the number of Rumanians have increased during those 31 years in an amazing rate. To illustrate the difference between the census figures of 1943 and those of 1977, we bring here the statistical data of four well known Transylvanian communities: 1943 Hunga-Rumarians nians SZAMOSUJVÁR-GHERLA: 4,846 1,972 FÜZES-FIZES: 1,088 662 VICE: 989 123 MAGYARSZOVAT: 1,534 781 Total population: 8,457 3,538 1977 Hunga-Rumarians nians SZAMOSUJVÁR-GHERLA: 143 7,879 FÜZES-FIZES: 314 1,991 VICE: 214 968 MAGYARSZOVAT: 489 1,986 Total population: 1,160 12,824 In these four communities the number of Hungarians decreased by 7,297, while the number of Rumanians increased by 11,664. The, question is: what happened to the Hunga rians, and where did all the Ruwtanions come from? LEARN THE TRUTH ABOUT TRANSYLVANIA!
