Page 8 THE EIGHTH HUNGARIAN TRIBE June, 1982 For Hungarians in Transylvania THE OTHER AVENUE “To give away money is an easy matter and in any man’s power. But to decide to whom to give it, and how large and when, and for what purpose and how, is neither in every man’s power—nor an easy matter. Hence, it is that such excellence is rare, praise worthy and noble. ” Aristotle. We must understand that Rumania as a nation will never be content to have a large concentration of potentially hostile Hungarians living in the center of the country. As a nation they will never feel secure and therefore no matter what form of government they might have the break up and assimilation of this group is their number one concern. If the Hungarians in Transylvania desire to keep their national identity they will have to mount what might be called a war of survival to counteract the above effort. To appeal to any forum or public body any place on earth is useless to stop this Rumanian project. Decades of petitions and appeals should have convinced anybody of their futility. From Transylvania comes the voice of despair, defeatism and hopelessness. The road to survival is not crying and handwringing. The Rumanians have to be counter-attacked on the very front they are pushing most. The break up of great Hungarian concentrations must be stopped. Our people are suffering great economic and cultural depravations. To stand by and tell them you be the hero and starve and suffer is not worthy of our heritage. A concentrated effort has to be made to channel ECONOMIC and cultural aid to them. If ALL Hungarians including the people of Hungary become aware of their responsibility toward these people victory could be attainable. Hungarians readily offer their life blood but are tight with their money but that’s what is needed. Since Rumania has a totalatarian form of government, some people might dispute this, a project like this will be hard but not impossible. If we wait for a united effort it will never happen. The starting point could be on an individual basis first. Families helping families, churches aiding churches, civic organizations helping similar organizations. Hungarian writers in Transylvania should be especially encouraged. If the war on the economical front is won, political solution for the Hungarian problem in Transylvania won’t be far. E.C.C. THE MAGYAR’S TASK Let us not cry for the past! “Look-—this was our true history! And what the West tells about us now?” Let us all have a Living present For the MAGYAR’S new HISTORY! Let us all not have too many “IFS” To blame our failures of the past. Let us all face the mirror And see the depth of our past. Let us all see our arrogance Which brought our Tyranny and Death. Let us all not blame other nations That they call us gypsy-nomad clan. Let us all face the true fact That we are not the best friends Amongst of ourselves in this land! Until we have not learned to be united; Like the jews do in any land; We are inviting destruction For our stubborn heads! Let us all face the good lucks We all can have in the new land. Let us all be proud of the fact That we all can learn, work and prosper, Help each-other amongst of ourselves. Let us all share the sorrows of hearts. Let us all share our hearty laughs. Let us all sit down and have a breath To give the LORD a hearty thanks. Let us all share our heritage The noble seed of our hearts. The fiery souls of the MAGYAR’S Which carried us through many wars. Let us all cherish the ancient faith From where all men and things came! Let us all not follow any race For his faith of his GOD grace! Let us all sing from our hearts The vibration of the MAGYAR’S blood. Let us all dance the MAGYAR’S dance The fiery pulse of our souls! Let us all unite while we share! Let us all cherish our heritage Without shameful past to blame. Let us all help to realize this AIM. Let us all have sincere faith; Then we have no fear—no enemy to blame! We will have merry heart—dance to share With all those who care our heritage. We all have to mature for this task! Then all men eager to know the MAGYAR’S past; The true history of our land. Proudly we say this is the MAGYAR’S heritage, Our souls are in one GOD and love we share, The CONSCIENCE is in every MAGYAR’S vein! By J. Szurcsik. Eunice, Louisiana. October 3, 1976.
