Page 4 THE EIGHTH TRIBE March, 1981 In 1979 and 1980 The Eighth Tribe featured articles on Endre Bartay and the Bartay Family, they played an important role in the Hungarian Musical Life in the 1980-s. A descendant of the Bartay family, John M. Bartay came to the United States and settled in Texas in 1858, he was featured in one of the articles. This original manuscript was sent to us by Gary Kent Bartay of San Antonio, Texas, great-great-grandson of Endre Bartay, Endre Bartay was instrumenti that Ferenc Erkel wrote the music for the Hungarian National Anthem: ‘‘Isten áldd me a Maggyart”. The article appeared in the August, 1979 issue. It was Endre Bartay, who wrote the first music to Petőffi’s “Nemzeti Dal.” The “Nemzeti Dal — The National Song appeared in full length in the 1980 March issue.
