Page 2 THE EIGHTH TRIBE June, 1981 DEDICATION This magazine is dedicated to the Eighth Tribe in America, descendants of the original Seven Magyar Tribes. Whatever their faith, their familiarity with their ancestral language, or their degree of Hungarian ancestry, we address ourselves to each of them. If this reading is your first acquaintance with “THE EIGHTH TRIBE”, we hope you find it informative and enjoyable and that in time you will become one of our regular subscribers. This magazine is and remains the “LIFE LINE” that keeps us together, that makes us and shapes us into a national Family. THE EDITOR’S CORNER . . . I would like to thank all our readers for their recent support and patience throughout my illness. Through the God-given talent of my doctors, I am once again able to see the beautiful nature of God’s creation. My vision is steadily improving, although as of yet, I’m still unable to read. Dr. Albert Wass has my deepest aappreciation for his excellent and inspired editorial in our May issue; hopefully it will create better understanding toward the aim of the Eighth Tribe Foundation. Also my thanks to those who worked on the Bartók Memorial issue. As we stated in a recent issue, the American1 Hungarian Federation has joined us in co-sponsoring the August conference. None of cur national church bodies or societies has responded to our requests. One of our leading clergymen gave the opinion that nothing will come of it; it will remain only on paper as another failure in the history of the Hungarian- American community. I earnestly hope that his words will not come to reality, for then' we may as well stop calling ourselves Hungarian-Americans — we will just be nameless. None of us can be native Americans, as Dr. Wass stated (unless we are of American Indian descent), for our roots are still in' our ancestor’s land. We would like to see whole congregations or individuals co-sponsoring the conference. We have added a slip for this purpose to the insert for your convenience. A subscriber told me that she could not understand the thinking of the so-called “leaders,” for, in her opinion, the future of our churches lies in this magazine and the Eighth Tribe Foundation. Another reader said that the only reason some are withholding their support is because they cannot foresee any man - etary gain for themselves. They place their worldly values over their religious and social beliefs. The Conference program is shaping up. There will be many interesting presentations for those who THE EIGHTH TRIBE Editor ..................................................... Sándor E.
