Page 2 THE EIGHTH TRIBE May, 1980 DEDICATION This magazine is dedicated to the Eighth Tribe in America, descendants of the original Seven Magyar Tribes. Whatever their faith, their familiarity tvith their ancestral language, or their degree of Hungarian ancestry, we address ourselves to each of them. If this reading is your first acquaintance with "THE EIGHTH TRIBE’, we hope you find it informative and enjoyable and that in time you will become one of our regular subscribers. THE EDITOR’S CORNER We would like to express our thanks to Mr. Louis L. Ambrose of Chicago, 111., for his tireless effort on behalf of the Eighth Tribe in the states of Illinois and Indiana. This fine heritage-conscious gentleman writes: “He hopes that he will be an example for many others in other cities and states — to work for the Eighth Tribe, both the magazine and the Foundation.” Our appreciation to Rev. Dr. Arthur Ludwig of East Chicago, Indiana; Mr. Frank Kovach, who has the Hungarian Radio Hour in Chicago on Saturday mornings; the editors of the “Chicago and Vicinity - Chicágó és Környéke” weekly Hungarian paper for their co-operation with Mr. Ambrose. A special thanks to the ‘Catholic Hungarians’ Sunday- Katolikus Magyarok Vasárnapja’ of Youngstown, Ohio for printing information about this magazine. DONATION TO THE EIGHTH TRIBE FOUNDATION P. 0. All donations will be published monthly in the EIGHTH TRIBE All donations will be refunded if our goal is not realized. Louis L. Ambrose addresses the gathering at the March 15th celebration on behalf of the Eighth Tribe. Looking on is Rev. Dr. Arthur Ludwig. Our appreciation to the editor of the Magyar Egyház, the Rt. Rev. Tibor Dömötör, for allowing the Magyar Egyház to carry information about the Transylvanian Quarterly and this magazine. We have always emphasized that there are needs for the Hungarian Weeklies and for the Church Papers to serve the American Hungarian community. The Eighth Tribe takes up where they leave off, and continues the work in the language of the new generations, acquainting them with their Hungarian heritage. This year, 1980, the Polish National Alliance celebrates its 100th Anniversary. One of its major accomplishments is Alliance College at Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1912, it is the only institution of higher learning of its kind in America — its main purpose to preserve the Polish Heritage. The Polish Americans are much greater in numbers than the Hungarian Americans, but we could have done the same, even achieved higher goals. We have some of the best qualified educators to staff a college, providing the finest education to our youth. Our churches, both Catholic and Protestant, have no qualified successors for the present pastors to carry THE EIGHTH TRIBE Editor ........................................................ Sándor E.
