Page 8 THE EIGHTH TRIBE December, 1980 DR. TIBOR BODI APPOINTED TO HERITAGE AFFAIRS ADVISORY COMMISSION Gov. Dick Thornburgh has appointed Dr. Tibor Bodi, a national leader in Hungarian-American af­fairs, to the Pennsylvania Heritage Affairs Advisory Commission, a non-salaried, bipartisan board designed to address the needs and concerns of ethnic com­munities throughout the Commonwealth. The commission advises the governor on the commemoration of historic events, the accomplish­ments and contributions involving the ethnic com­munity and the sponsorship and promotion of events and projects of historic, cultural, economic and edu­cational interest. “Dr. Bodi’s proven commitment and dedication to the Hungarian-American community will greatly aid the Heritage Commission in its efforts to promote and preserve the strong ethnic traditions within the Commonwealth,” said Thornburgh. “I look forward to working with Dr. Bodi and the members of the commission to foster the appreciation of cultural traditions.” A native of Hungary, Bodi is a summa cum laude graduate of the Royal Peter Pázmány University in Budapest and served a residency at Hamburg Uni­versity, Hamburg Germany. After World War II, Bodi served as a physician in the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Ad­ministration in the refugee camps of Germany. He came to the United States in 1950. Bodi is a member of the American Hungarian Federation and has served as its director. He has also served as president of the Philadelphia Hungarian Club, a center of cultural and sport activity for Hun­garians in the city. He has worked as a physician in the Hungarian community for over twenty years. He has published 81 papers in major medical journals to date and is a member of numerous major medical associations. A recipient of numerous awards for his achieve­ments in the field of internal medicine, Bodi recently attained the rank of Clinical Professor of Medicine at Hahnemann Medical College. Joseph Blair Varga, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Varga of Florence, N.J., received his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering technology at Trenton State College. He received his Associate degree in applied science in electronics at Burlington County Community College in 1976 and has received numerous commendations for his work in the field of solar energy. He has accepted an engineering posi­tion at Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation in Cherry Hill. Dorlinda April Gfeller-Varga, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Varga of Florence, N.J., received her doctor of medicine degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Fla. She received the Luther Holloway Award for overall ex­cellent performance in the field of child health. She completed her basic science work in medicine at the University of Alabama School of Medicine where she received the March of Dimes Award and was fresh­man class representative to the dean. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Goucher College in Towson, Md., she will intern at the Shands Teaching Hospital in Gainesville, where she resides with her husband, Dr. Eduard Gfeller. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Vagen of Keansburg, N.J., an­nounce the birth of their first child, Eric Philip, born recently at Riverview Hospital in Redbank. Mrs. Vagen will be remembered as the former Kathleen Bartha, daughter of Bert Bartha and the late Pricilla Bartha of Roebling, N.J. Maternal great grandmother is Emma Peters of Roebling. Mr. and Mrs. Hans Vagen of Mill River, Mass., are the baby’s grand­parents. Maria Vanderburg, also of Mill River, is the paternal great-grandmother.
