Pegc2 THE EIGHTH TRIBE November, 1980 DEDICATION This magazine is dedicated to the Eighth Tribe in America, descendants of the original Seven Magyar Tribes. Whatever their faith, their familiarity with their ancestral language, or their degree of Hungarian ancestry, we address ourselves to each of them. If this reading is your first acquaintance with “THE EIGHTH TRIBE”, we hope you find it informative and enjoyable and that in time you will become one of our regular subscribers. This magazine is and remains the “LIEE LINE” that keeps us together, that makes us and shapes us into a national Family. THE EDITOR’S CORNER . . . Bethlen I’ ress, as indicated by its name, is not an ordinary printshop like many others owned by individual Hungarians. Bethlen Press carries the name of a famous Hungarian-Transy Ivanian Prince. This name carries an obligation to live up-to — although many of the present American Hungarian leaders do not, or will not want to believe this. The Bethlen Press is not owned by one individual some might have more investment in it than others —- but it is an investment in the future of all American Hungarians; an investment dictated by an obligation to our heritage. Bethlen Press (Bethlen Freedom Press) began operation in the Fall of 1967 as part of the Bethlen Home. It was funded hv the Vlollon Foundation. Its original purpose was to further the Hungarian DONATION ACKNOWLEDGEMENT TO THE EIGHTH TRIBE FOUNDATION For the establishment of a Hungarian Cultural Institute for the preservation of our Hungarian Heritage. This Fall we enter into the fourteenth year of operation. Bethlen Freedom Press operated until Spring of 1974. Since then it has been called the Bethlen Press, became independent from the Bethlen Home, and moved to its present location. Through all this time it still adhered to its original purpose and obligation. There have been many books printed by the Bethlen Press during the past thirteen years, in both languages. The most important work was the publishing the Revised Version of the New Testament by Dr. László Ravasz, the late Presiding Bishop of the Hungarian Reformed Church in Hungary. It was forbidden to publish this book in Hungary. The everyday Hungarian never even heard that this book is even in existence. The larger part of the expense for this project was also funded by the Mellon Foundation, through the effort of Rt. Rev. Sándor Daróczy, then the Superintendent of the Bethlen Home. Don’t you find it strange, the resources we received for this project and for the initial start of the Press came from a non-Hungarian source. In 1974, when the Bethlen Home made the decision lo discontinue the Bethlen Freedom Press’s operation, THE EIGHTH TRIBE Editor ........................................................ Sándor E.
