THE EIGHTH TRIBE June, 1979 Rev. Zoltán Király Rev. Zoltán Szabó South Norwalk, Connecticut Dean of Eastern Qassis Rev. Zoltán Kovács Munhall, Pennsylvania Dean of the Central Classis Rt. Rev. Dr. Stephen Szabó Cleveland, Ohio Dean of the Lake Shore Classis Rev. Arthur Ludwig Gary, Indnana Dean of the Western Classis Charlotte Remenyik: new coach at Ohio State University When Hungarian-born Charlotte Ghimessy Remenyik left Northwestern University to become the women’ fencing coach at Ohio State, the Illinois Amateur Fencing League of America thought enough of her to name a competition after her — the Remenyik Open. Reményik, who left Hungary in 1956, taught men’s and women’s fencing at Northwestern, and coached the women’s team to Big Ten tournament crowns in 1977 and 1978. She feels that Ohio State’s team has much potential. “There is no reason why Ohio State can’t have a great team. The possibilities and resources here are great,” she said. Reményik began her fencing training at 12, and started competing in Budapest at 13. She represented Hungary against Poland in 1953 and against Czechoslovaki in 1954, and took fifth place in the World University Games in 1954. In the United States she won the Illinois Divisional seven times, the Chicagoland Open six times, and the Midwest Sectional Championship three times between 1956 and 1972. She placed eleventh in the 1972 Olympic Trials. Reményik and her husband, neither of whom spoke English, were married in Vienna on their w'ay overseas, then settled in Illinois. By the time she went to school at W. R. Harper College in Palatine, 111., she spoke fairly good English, even without lessons. She received an associate degree in 1971, and went on to get a physical education degree at Northwestern 111. University in Chicago, while raising two children. OSH Lantern, Columbus, Ohio
