April, 1979 THE EIGHTH TRIBE Page 3 As the mother bird gathers her children under wings, so does the Eighth Tribe want to gather the children of Árpád into one fold. Individually, we are naturalized or born as citizens of the country we live in—let that be the U.S. (this magazine has readers in almost every state, including Hawaii), Canada, S. America, Australia, New Zealand and some European countries,—our allegiances are to these countries, but as Theodore Roosevelt said: .. if one does not honor his or her ancestors, it is likely he or she will not honor and serve faithfully this nation.” As we honor the memory of a man who faithfully served his adopted country and gave his life for her, let us all fulfill our obligation to the country we are citizens of. At the same time let us remember that we are also the sons and daughters of Árpád, who through the centuries gave the world many great men, soldiers, persons in the arts, the sciences and the professions. We ask all of you who are reading this magazine for the first time to join our evergrowing readership. The subscription price is only S8.00 ($11.00 outside the U.S.) annually, a price you can very easily afford. Parents, grandparents—give your children and grandchildren a gift subscription. And if you can, a donation of $20.00, $25.00, or any amount, to the Eighth Tribe Foundation, so the Hungarian Cultural Institute can become a reality, not just a dream of those who have passed away and left their legacy to us. Some day, when you and your family are on vacation and traveling through this great country, you will have one destination: Ligonier, Pa., where you can see a family heirloom. With this in mind, all of us at the Eighth Tribe join all of you in Charleston, S.C. for this occasion. Also, those of you in your churches, or at your homes, who are paying tribute to a man whom we call our own, who was faithful unto death, and who left a great legacy and example for all of us.
