January, 1979 THE EIGHTH TRIBE Page 3 large support of this publication would pay for the magazine costs, as well as a sizeable portion of the expense of the Foundation. This is the last chance we will have to preserve a part of our heritage for our grandchildren. I’ve heard some people say that Hungarian-Americans don’t want a Cultural Institute — they want to remain anonymous concerning their nationality. This is only because second, third, and even some first generation Hungarian-Americans are not aware of the proud heritage we have contributed to this country. We have to prove to the other nationalities which make up the American people that not all Hungarian men have pierced ears, play violins and live in wagons. We have an immensely rich heritage to pass down — don’t let this one be the only one your children will ever know. I would like to ask the pastors and consistories of the reformed churches in all denominations to designate one Sunday as “Eighth Tribe Foundation Day” and ask their permission for myself to serve in the pulpit that Sunday. The “Appeal” flyers with return envelopes will be sent out earlier for distribution amongst tbe members of the congregation. 1 also ask the Catholic brethren to get in touch with me, so we can work out some kind of format through which I can talk to their parishioners. o-o-o-o Here is a quote from the July issue to refresh your memory: Now let me turn to the subject you touched upon in the June issue: Bethlen Cultural Institute or whatever name be under. fCe all know it is needed. So let us take the big step: create an EIGHTH TRIBE FOUNDATION, let all of us donate toward this project. . . . Now a final word to all my brethren of Hungarian descent .... your task is simple . . . just dip into your pockets and donate the amount you are able. Together with God’s help we can have a “Hungarian Cultural Institute” a Monument dedicated to our forefathers. Enclosed it twenty dollars to start the Eighth Tribe Foundation. o-o-o-o Total Donations listed in the December issue ..........$585.00 Steve and Julia Kaduk Tarczali ................................$ 20.00 Tucson, Arizona James and Evelyn Nagy McCokle ...........................$ 10.00 Bethel Park, Pennsylvania Stephen Mészáros ........................................................$ 20.00 Orlando. Dunch of Milltown, N. J. for misspelling his name in the Donation List printed in the December issue.—editor. Dear Mr. Chomos: Enclosed is my check for the 1979 subscription of the Eighth Tribe magazine. I am a first generation Hungarian- American and proud of it. In traveling with my husband in the United States Air Force, my friends would misunderstand my true nationality. The Hungarian church taught me the language and my parents taught me the cooking skills brought from Hungary. I find your magazine very helpful in my understanding my Hungarian heritage. I do my family genealogy and this subscription sets the background in knowing of my ancestral country. I was delighted to hear that you were striving to build a Hungarian Heritage Foundation in Ligonier, Pa. Therefore, enclosed please find $20.00 for this cause. I only wish it could be more. The Hungarian-American Club, Inc. in Tucson, is alive and well. The Harvest Dinner-Dance held in November was well attended. This was their second affair and a larger hall was rented for the occasion. Fraternally, Julia Kaduk Tarczali Tucson, Arizona o-o-o-o Dear Sir: I am a second generation Hungarian, therefore it is quite difficult for me to read a Journal with Hungarian texts, I therefore especially appreciate the English section of your magazine. One thing I would like to see more of, if possible, is reporting more of events in the Cleveland area. Looking forward to receiving the first issues. Iremain, Sincerely, William J. Brutler Mentor, Ohio Here is a cliallange to someone in the Cleveland area to report on the happenings. Do we have any volunteers?—ed. o-o-o-o Dear Mr. Chomos: Enclosed is my check for $28.00; $8.00 for renewal of my subsription and Twenty Dollars for the Cultural Institute.
