The Eighth Tribe, 1979 (6. évfolyam, 1-12. szám)

November, 1979 THE EIGHTH TRIBE Page 3 with food and wine and spent an interesting half hour discussing the old and new Hungary; our common problems here in the United States. After leaving, I felt that for a few moments I returned to the days of my grandfathers. What I’m trying to bring out is this: American- Hungarians have many segments, sometimes completely opposite views and backgrounds. Many times they do clash with each other. A new generation has come out from Hungary in the last three decades. They’ve grown up in a completely different world from that of our parents, and from those American-Hungarians who were born in this new land. For them Hungary meant hardship and escape, for our parents and for us, Hungary is a memory of old tales, a history to remember. Our aim, through this magazine, is to build a bridge between all of us; Catholics or Protestants, old or new — not to tear down the span we’ve managed to build up to now. An important note to all subscribers: Due to increased cost in materials and postage, we are forced to increase our subscription price to ten ($10.00) dollars per year beginning with the November issue. To show our appreciation to those who have been with us through the past years, you may renew your 1980 subscription for $8.00, if sent in before December 13th, 1979. You can find your expiry date (month) on your name sticker. To all those people who are getting this magazine and did not send in their subscription, despite our note to them, we shall stop sending it with the December issue. For our subscribers in Canada and other foreign countries the subscription will be $12.00. Please use International Money Orders or Bank Checks payable in U.S. Funds. No personal checks, please. For the last five years we sent complimentary copies to all churches and pastors. Few churches and pastors chose to send in their subscriptions. We believe all churches and pastors can afford the yearly subscription, and it is not fair to the other churches and pastors, who did pay, to receive a free subscription. Some of our reader asked about the numbers befon* their names. The first number is for identification, second and third numbers for the month and year the subscription started. Dear Mr. Chomos: It is a noble deed to honor our descendants of the original Seven Magyar Tribes. The Eighth Tribe is doing an excellent job and should try harder for the future. However, the last issue had an article about Otto von Habsburg. I do wonder since when is a“Habsburg” regarded as a descendant of the Seven Tribes of the Magyars? It is true that we had a very long history together. It had lasted for over four hundred years. It was a long loveaffair. It is over now for good. The Aradi thirteen’s death speak very loud of Habsburg. I hope that you are getting my message. The Eighth Tribe should be concerned with ONLY our kind! Enclosed is $25.00 for the Eighth Tribe Foundation. We want to see and hear from lovely people such as the Bodo family and many heroes of the past. The Eighth Tribe recognizes the past and present of many hard working Magyars. It is your way of expressing our thanks to them. Best wishes and good luck for a long-long future.
