SÁNDOR BODO Painter, Sculptor, and Restorer Born in Szamosszeg, Hungary in 1920. Studied at College of Fine and Applied Arts in Budapest. Immigrated to the United States in 1957. His early interests varying from light water colors to portraits and sculpture turned in the latter years to the study of equestrian sports in America. Bodo superbly displays his talent and devotion to this exciting field in vividly capturing its graceful beauty and elegant tradition. Since his arrival in the United States, he has taken an important place in American art, having exhibited widely his paintings and in restoring shrines. Hs works are found in public and private collections throughout this country and Europe. A sensitive artist of great talent and versatility. He is strong in his convictions with courage of expression necessary for effectiveness. His awards are: gold medal of honor for watercolor, Am. Art Week Exhibition in New York, 1961; gold medal of honor for sculpture, National Arts Club, New York, 1963; gold medal of honor for oil painting, 1966; Medal of Honor for Sculpture, National Arts Club, Gramercy Park, New York. ILONA BODO Born in Hungary, educated as a textile designer at the college of Fine Art in Budapest, 1945-1951. Designer for Kistex Manufacturing Co. Studio in Budapest, Hungary, 1951-1953. Was member of the Publishing House of the Art Foundation of Young Artists Collective Studio, Budapest, 1953-1956. Emmigrated to the United States in 1957, lived in Washington, D.C., from 1957 to 1958. Restored many works of art for an antique shop in Georgetown. Moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1959 and with her husband-artist Sándor, built their own home with studios, assisted restoration work which included work at Cheekwood, The Hermitage, home of President James K. Polk in Columbia, Tennessee and many private collections. Since her arrival in the United States, Ilona has exhibited and demonstrated her textile and other art work both individually and collectively. She holds memberships with the American Craftman’s Council and the Tennessee Artists Craftsmen’s Association.
