Page 2 THE EIGHTH TRIBE November, 1978 DEDICATION This magazine is dedicated to the Eighth Tribe in America, descendants of the original Seven Magyar Tribes. Whatever their faith, their familiarity with their ancestral language, or their degree of Hungarian ancestry, we address ourselves to each of them. —o— If this reading is your first acquaintance with “THE EIGHTH TRIBE”, we hope you find it informative and enjoyable and that in time you will become of our regular subscribers. THE EDITOR’S CORNER REMEMBRANCE— The months of October and November remind us of the ill-fated Freedom Revolution by the Hungarian people in the year of 1956. On November 4th the Russian Army reenterred Hungary and the gallant Hungarians were no match to the superior armed Russian Army. Since then the Hungarian Nation tried to reenter in the family of Nations in many ways and once again they are gaining recognition throughout the world. Relationship between the U.S. and Hungary was greatly improved. The return of St. Stenhen’s Crown (some like it or not) created more pride amongst the people—remembering their history. More and more American Hungarians are visiting their relatives in Hungary. Our concern today: Why the Russian Army still in Hungary after 22 years? Does the Russian Government feels that the small Hungarian Nation is a threat to the mighty Russian Empire? We hope and pray that the Russian DONATION TO THE EIGHTH TRIBE FOUNDATION P. 0. In the spirit of traditional Polish-Hungarian friendship the Eighth Tribe extends its most sincere greetings to the American Polish Community from the American Hungarians on the selection of Cardinal Karol Wojtyla of Poland as the 264th pope of the Roman Catholic Church. For the past few months members of the Hungarian Reformed Church of Allen Park, Michigan received the Eighth Tribe. We urge all of you to subscribe to the Eighth Tribe'as you read this issue we hope you will make that decision, for otherwise this is the last issue you are going to get. We hope you have enjoyed reading them. The Hungarians achieved great things in Michigan, especially in the Detroit area. It would be a great service in the cause of the American Hungarian Life if all the people in Michigan would join the readership of the Eighth Tribe and show their support for the Eighth Tribe Foundation. More on . . . HUNGARIAN CULTURAL INSTITUTE The preservation of the American Hungarian Heritage Here is a quote from the July issue to refresh your memory: Now let me turn to the subject you touched upon in the June issue: Bethlen Cultural Institute or whatever name be under. We all know it is needed. So let us take the big step: create an EIGHTH TRIBE FOUNDATION, let all of us donate toward this project. . . . Now a final word to all my brethren of Hungarian descent .... your task is simple . . . just dip into your pockets and donate the amount you are able.
