Page 2 THE EIGHTH TRIBE August, 1978 DEDICATION This magazine is dedicated to the Eighth Tribe in America, descendants of the original Seven Magyar Tribes. Whatever their faith, their familiarity with their ancestral language, or their degree of Hungarian ancestry, we address ourselves to each of them. If this reading is your first acquaintance with “THE EIGHTH TRIBE”, we hope you find it informative and enjoyable and that in time you will become of our regular subscribers. THE EDITOR’S CORNER More on . . . BETHLEN CULTURAL INSTITUTE The preservation of the American Hungarian Heritage In the July issue a letter was published recommending that an Eighth Tribe Foundation be created. The Foundation would purchase the former Bethlen Home Orphanage and turn it into a Cultural Institute for preservation of Hungarian Heritage. Since then through personal contacts and phone calls many favorable comments reached us. Also the donations started coming in. Here is a quote from the July issue to refresh your memory: Now let me turn to the subject you touched upon in the June issue: Bethlen Cultural Institute or whatever name be under. We all know it is needed. So let us take the big step: create an EIGHTH TRIBE FOUNDATION, let all of us donate toward this project. . . . Now a final word to all my brethren of Hungarian descent .... your task is simple . . . just dip into your pockets and donate the amount you are able. Together with God’s help we can have a “Hungarian Cultural Institute” a Monument dedicated to our forefathers. Enclosed it twenty dollars to start the Eighth Tribe Foundation. I think that it is time that we all get together and do something about it. Our ancestors had a great deal to do with the formation of our free country. At the break of the Civil War 800 Hungarians offered their services to fight for freedom. These volunteers were of the DONATION TO THE EIGHTH TRIBE FOUNDATION P. O.
