Page 4 THE EIGHTH TRIBE June, 1978 ACADEMIC NEWS:— DR. GEORGE C. SZEGŐ We present to our readers Dr. George C. Szegő, a recognized leader in solar technology. Dr. George C. Szegő, President of InterTechnol­­ogy Corporation has competed successfully with com­panies like General Electric and Honeywell for government research contracts that are the backbone of the Solar Industry thus far. Dr. George Szegő was bom in Budapest, Hungary on March 23, 1919. He came to the United States as a small child but has returned to Hungary several times in the last ten - fifteen years. He still speaks Hungarian reasonably well. Dr. George Szegő received his B.S., in Chemical Engineering from the college of the City of New York and the University of Denver in 1947. In 1950 he received his M.S., at the University of Washington and in 1956 his Ph.D., in Chemical Engineering also from the University of Washington. From 1968 until the present he has remained as Chairman and Presi­dent of InterTechnology Corporation. Dr. Szegő has been guest lecturer in many count­ries and at numerous universities in the U. S. He has been consultant to the United Nations, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of the Army and held countless other high offices. Dr. Szegő is a member of the New York Academy of Sciences, and was elected “Man of the Year” in 1966. There are four books or chapters of books pub­lished by Dr. George Szegő on power, energy, or propulsion in addition to approximately 50 major reports, several score technical publications in tech­nical literature all over the world. DR. CLARA M. SZEGŐ Dr. Clara M. Szegő, (Sister of Dr. George C. Szegő) is Professor of molecular biology at the Uni­versity of California at Los Angeles. Dr. Clara M. Szegő was born in Budapest, Hun­gary on March 23, 1916. She came to the United States as a small child. She speaks Hungarian reason­ably well and has returned to Hungary several times in recent years. She is married to Dr. Sidney Roberts, Professor of Biological Chemistry, University of Cali­fornia, Los Angeles. Dr. Clara M. Szegő received her B.A. from Hun­ter College, New York in 1937, and her M.S. in Biochemistry and Psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1939 and her Ph.D. in the same majors from the University of Minnesota in 1942. Among the honors Dr. Clara M. Szegő received are the New York State Regents Scholarship for 1934-37, elected Garvin Fellow of the American Chemical Society in 1937, elected Cancer Research Fellow of the Minnesota Medical Foundation in 1944, elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 1951, and awarded the Gregory Pincus Memorial Medallion, Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology in 1974. Dr. Clara M. Szegő has written approximately 130 scientific Publications.
