Both are constructed by sandwiching a photoconductive and an electroluminescent layer between two electrodes and they convert X-ray image patterns into visible images. They are thin, flat, lightweight screens and need only 100 to 200 volts 60 Hz driving voltage. The storage type screen displays its visible image for several hours or until it is electrically erased. The nonstorage type amplifier screen is a direct replacement for existing fluoroscopic screens. It provides 10 to 50 times higher brightness, three times better resolution and higher contrast than the best standard fluoroscopic screen. Though these panels were developed for nondestructive testing (NASA postponed the program needing them) with some modification several medical applications are very promising. They will be used in both fields once commercial production is started. Dr. Szepesi is participating also in an akin field under the leadership of Dr. Peter Brody.„Xafiothgr.
