Page 10 THE EIGHTH TRIBE July, 1976 Hungarian Scouts Celebrate 25th Anniversary in USA The first Hungarian ethnic scout troop in the USA was founded in Cleveland, Ohio, 25 years ago hy two freshly arrived “displaced persons,” District Commissioner Ed Chaszar and Scoutmaster Frank Beodray. The members of the troop were all refugees; some of them already had scouting experience in the refugee camps of Europe where their families lived after the Soviet occupation of Hungary forced them to flee. The founding of the troop in Cleveland was followed by similar initiatives in many other cities. Today there are 24 Hungaran troops in the USA ranging from the East Coast to California. Together with other ethnic scout organizations, the Hungarian Scout Association, Inc. (address: P.O. Box 68, Garfield, N.J. 07026) is in partnership with the Boy Scouts of America, and proudly celebrates its 25th Anniversary of educating better individuals and better citizens in the U.S.A.
