The terrible fate of these 41 Hungarian ministers eventually reached the ears of foreign Protestant powers, and it was these powers who were instru­mental in having the ministers released. The Habs­burg power renewed attacks upon Protestant Transyl­vanians. The Dutch ambassador at Vienna was in­structed to intervene in their behalf. Also at that period Holland was in alliance with Leopold I. After repeated interchange of notes, an agreement was finally reached. Both those in the galleys and those in prison were to be released.
