Page Six THE EIGHTH TRIBE August, 1975 After serving in the Second World War, Frank J. Lada became active in the Veterans of World War II organization. Soon people realized his natural leadership abilities and elevated him to the office of State Commander in 1958. Later on Mr. Lada was selected to be National Inspector in the AMVETS. During one of his many trips to the capitol in Washington, D. C., he once had lunch with President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and in the evening had dinner with former President Harry S. Truman. He was also appointed to the Federal Veterans Re-employment Rights Commission by President Eisenhower in 1958. Before long his political activities came to full bloom when he announced his candidacy for the office of Mayor of one of the most beautiful suburbs of Detroit, Allen Park, Michigan. Few dared to believe that Frank J. Lada would be elected mayor. Much to the surprise of his opponents he was elected with an overwhelming majority. Mayor Lada is now discharging his duties in Allen Park, Mich. His tasks are not easy, for in 1927 Allen Park was a small village with 400 residents and the steady growth of the town has increased its population to 42,500 residents. He has many good friends among the City Council, like Councilman Leslie Demeter, another Hungarian, and H. Duda, whose parents came from Austria-Hungary, hut who claims to be Slovak. The city has an excellent school system and a symphony orchestra. Approximately 25 percent of the population of Allen Park is Hungarian with many German, Polish, Italian, French, and others. Administrating a modern city in such inflationary times, especially in the Detroit Area, where the automobile industry has suffered tremendously during the recent recession, is not easy. But Mayor Frank J. Lada always has a smile on his face as he meets the new challenges of our day. We are very proud of our Hungarian Mayor, Frank .1. Lada, and congratulate him on behalf of the magazine: The Eighth Tribe.
