Page Ten THE EIGHTH TRIBE JUNE, 1975 June, 1974 The clergy and faithful of the Hungarian parishes In the Pittsburgh area are privileged to welcome Joseph Cardinal Mindszenty, confessor and martyr who, amidst most trying circumstances, remained loyal to God, to the church, and to his country. Cardinal Mindszenty's life is a shining example of a church leader, who all his life fought in defense of Christianity, justice and human rights. After a lost war and subsequent occupation of Hungary, he showed his disorientated countrymen what is right, honest, decent, and spiritually profitable. He fearlessly defended the oppressed, the poor, and the forgotten. Disregarding his own personal safety and comfort, he had the courage to defend the one thousand year old Christian character of his country. He always maintained that truth is the handmaid of justice; freedom is its child; peace is its companion; victory follows in its train. We wholeheartedly welcome Joseph Cardinal Mindszenty, this fearless prince of the church, this true man of God, and this spiritual giant who "lives in exile because he preferred justice."
