®jje jiksseiigin' Ligonier, Pennsylvania 15658 Bethlen Nursing Home fígonier Gardens 125 Kalassav Drive 724-238-3517 Offering Independent - Personal - Skilled Nursing Care ____________ — JULY AND AUGUST 2003 ISSUE It's hard to believe Ligonier Gardens has been part of The Bethlen Home for 2 years! It's even harder to believe that 180 residents have been admitted to Ligonier Gardens in the short time we've been in operation. Not only have we had the privilege of getting to know 180 residents, we have had the privilege of getting to know 180 families. Since the weather outside has been rainy and cool, we have taken extra time in making the inside of our home sunny and warm. We continue to hold our Blood Pressure Clinics on the second Saturday of each month. If you haven’t taken advantage of this free program, the next one would be a good time to start. We also had a Book Fair in May, which was a huge success. I hope we are providing the care you expected to receive when you or your family member came to live at Ligonier Gardens. During the last 2 years we have learned many things, especially how to work together as a team. We take great pride in our good reputation and in having two State Inspections with No Deficiencies. Sometimes when we pass each other in the hall, one of us will stop and say “Do you remember how he used to call us on the phone instead of using the call bell?” or “Do you remember the song that she sang every morning when she first awakened?” We have so many memories already. Some make us happy, while others bring tears to our eyes when we remember how much we miss a resident who has moved on. There is a print hanging in our entrance way that was donated by Ray Gibas. It reads: Some People come into our lives and quietly go; Others stay awhile and leave footprints in our hearts and we are never the same. This year Ligonier Gardens and The Bethlen Home awarded a $1,000.00 Scholarship to a graduating senior from each of the local high schools. To qualify for the scholarship the student must be planning to pursue a career in the medical profession. We need to encourage young people to think about becoming Certified Nursing Assistants, Therapy Specialists, LPN’s, RN’s and Physicians. The scholarships will be offered every year. Our residents have started planting gardens. Our special thank you goes to Wallace Mundell and Rev. Posta for all their hard work. We also want to thank Mr. Ambrose fron the Country Market for donating the beautiful flowers. Wha a wonderful addition to our courtyard! The Annual Cancer Society Relay for Life was held Ma, 31 at the Weller Field in Ligonier. It rained, rained and rained some more. It rained all day long, but we still walked. Ligonier Gardens had a team of 14 that consisted of employees and volunteers. We walked a total of 82 miles and raised almost $1,000.00 for the American Cancer Society. Next year we’ll be walking again. I’m sure all of us have been affected in some way by cancer. Please join us next year when we walk, so we can help find a cure for this terrible disease. All of us have had our lives enriched and our hearts touched in some way by each of our residents. We will continue to do our very best to provide respect, dignity, kindness and compassion to all who make Ligonier Gardens their home. I hope everyone has heard about our address change at Ligonier Gardens. Please start using our new address as soon as possible: Ligonier Gardens Personal Care Home 2018 Route 30 East, Ligonier, PA 15658 Please feel free to call us with any questions or concerns you may have. I hope everyone has a safe, wonderful summer filled with lots of time with family and friends. Julie Skovira, Personal Care Administrator
