Anyone who has experienced the event over the years, knows it's a time for families to come together and enjoy several fun filled days of headline entertainment, craft and food booths and, most of all, the parade. This year was the first time Bethlen Home participated in the parade by entering a float. The theme for the parade was "Working Together For A New Century". The Home's float theme was "Celebrating the Past...Looking Toward the Future". Our float displayed three sections which represented The "Past", recognizing the Bethlen Home Orphanage, The "Present", representing The Home as it stands today, by having staff in uniform and residents representing themselves and The "Future", displaying a drawing of the future Nursing Center, which will be started in 2001. Our float was done in the colors of red, white and green to represent the Hungarian Heritage of The Home. Residents, Staff and Volunteers worked very hard making the float design become a reality, with many hours spent building, making tissue flowers, etc. As the float shimmered along the parade route that day, the Community gave an overwhelming response of applause and cheers to The Home and Staff for the wonderful service they provide to the surrounding communities. "Heart Felt Thanks" to Ron Cornell, Physical Therapist of In Sync Rehab Company and Volunteer Mario Battaglia for all their hard work and creativity, in constructing the design, pulling and delivering the float among many other things. We couldn't have done it without you. You're the best! Many thanks to all the following: • All the Nurses, Aides, Dietary, Laundry, Social Service, Admissions, Office Staff and Housekeeping Departments for dropping by the Activity Department when you had a chance, to help make tissue flowers. • The Maintenance Department for all your help in running errands and helping with the assembling of the float. • Resident representatives Rita Forsman, Olga Szabo and Betty Queer for riding on the float. • All the Staff who rode the float, passed out treats, and helped to get the residents to the parade site safely. We couldn't have done it without you. • All the residents who devoted their time during the days and evenings to help make tissue flowers for the float. • Mario Battaglia and Ron Cornell for the use of their vehicles in the parade. "Special Thanks" to Rolling Rock Farms for the use of their hay wagon to make the float possible. "Thanks Everyone!" for making Fort Ligonier Days such a great success!! We're looking forward to participating next year. Below is a photo of the construction of the float.
