&eb. Jflorence ï^oob, HC$)C COMFORT ONE ANOTHER Can you remember a time in your life when something happened to you that may have caused you fear or sadness? It may have been a time of crying and feeling like you had no where to turn. But just when you felt like your world was coming to an end, someone was there to pick you up and dust you off. That someone may have been a parent, friend, or perhaps a total stranger. And any fear or pain that might have been present was now gone. We all can say that at one time or another, we have been comforted by someone. But even if we didn't have anyone around us to help comfort us in those hard times of our lives, we have the assurance of knowing that God will help us make it through. In 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 it tells us: "Now the Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, Comfort your hearts, and establish you in every good word and work." This scripture is telling us that God loves us. We need to remind ourselves of His love, for when we do, it can bring comfort during a time of need. This scripture also tells us that God has given us everlasting consolation. So even when a person thinks and feels as if they are all alone, they can be comforted by these words that God has given to all mankind. Deuteronomy 31:8 also tells us: "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." Even in the middle of the night when fear creeps up to taunt a person, we need to remember that God is right there with us. He will give us comfort and peace to help see us through the night. God is our comforter twenty-four hours a day. In John 16:16, Jesus is speaking to His disciples. And it reads: "And I pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever." Jesus knew that when He left, His disciples and all man-kind would need someone to comfort them and that the comforter that He was going to provide would be the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the one who lives in all believers, providing them with whatever they might need. He is the one who is with us through thick and thin, giving us that extra little needed boost to keep us going. When we feel as though the whole world has deserted us, He reminds us that God is always there. From the time we were small, He is the one who sent that special person to help us. It may have been when we fell off our bike and got a scrape or two, or perhaps when we were hurt by a friend or relative. He is the one who was there when we lost a loved one, and He sent others to gather around us in our time of sorrow to comfort us and help give us the strength to go on. He never leaves us nor forsakes us. He provides others to help us through those times when we need comfort. God's Word does not tell us that we won't experience times of trouble. It only tells us that He will make the bumpy roads of life a little smoother. In the process of all the trials that arise in our lives, He will help us to go through them, knowing He is right there with us, lifting our burdens and bringing peace into our lives. We all experience trouble in our lives, but when God helps us through each and everyone, what does He expect us to do? In 2 Corinthians 1:3 & 4 it says: "All praise to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the source of every mercy and the God who comforts us. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When others are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God had given us." God allows trouble to come into our lives. He will provide the comfort that we need to help us through. He wants us to make each experience a learning experience. Why make it a learning experience? God knows that somewhere on the road of life we are going to come upon someone who is going through something similar to what we may have gone through. And in their time of need, God wants us to comfort
