Family members, close friends and staff members honored their colleague for the afternoon. Although our hearts were saddened when JoAnn Schmucker, Assistant Director of Nursing retired, we knew she would leave her position in good hands. JoAnn retired on December 31, 1998. She has been an employee of the Bethlen Home for twenty years. Out of those twenty years of dedicated service, she has worked as a Registered Nurse and Assistant Director of Nursing for the last 11 years. She will be greatly missed by staff and residents. With a smile on her face she always met the day with a variety of challenges. JoAnn was born and raised in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Her parents, Christine and Joseph Skolada, remain natives of Latrobe today. She has 2 brothers and one sister who also live in the Latrobe area. She received her nursing degree from Latrobe Hospital. Her pride and joy are her five children and eight grandchildren, with whom she'll be able to spend more time. JoAnn has also shown interest in doing some traveling with her classmates. Congratulations!!!!! on your retirement JoAnn. You deserve it! Although you will be greatly missed, may God continue to bless you with good health and happiness. Remember...you can always come and volunteer!!!! "Congratulations" to our new Assistant Director of Nursing, Sandra Midlo. Sandy, as known to her co-workers, has been an employee of the Bethlen Home since 1995. Prior to her new position, her title was Registered Nursing Assessment Coordinator. She also worked as a floor nurse when she first arrived at Bethlen Home. Born and raised in Connellsville, Pennsylvania, she is one of 11 children.
