Soon we will be celebrating Memorial Day along with several other upcoming holidays this summer. We have a tendency to forget how blessed we are to live in the United States of America, where we so freely display freedom of speech, freedom of choice and freedom of religion without being persecuted. In order to have these freedoms, millions upon millions of men and women have died for our country so that we may continue to live in a world that's free to do whatever we choose. The following poems help to remind us just how grateful we should be for the freedoms we still have today. SONG FOR YOUNG AMERICANS | STOOD BESIDE THE FLAG TODAY I live in a land Where the people are free And joy is a birthright Belonging to me. Love shelters my home Like a wide-branching tree, The doors of the church Are open to me, The schools unlock treasure With truth for a key. A whole world of wonder Is waiting for me. I live in a land Where the people are free; The future shines golden For children like me. I stood beside the flag today And watched it gently wave; I saw amidst the stars and stripes America, the great... A land to which the masses turn, A land that still is free, A country that still has been spared The rule tyranny. I stood beside the grand old flag, The tried red, white and blue... Compatriots, this flag and I, Of a nation fair to view. A nation built upon God's truth, Where He is still the key To keeping this, our glorious land, A torch of liberty.
