Chaplin's Comer by Rev. Paul Kovács ^cttírítp pltgljítgljts A MESSAGE OF EASTER!! "HE IS NOT HERE" Jesus was buried, but he didn't stay in the grave. He rose! And He is alive today! There is a phrase often quoted: “In the midst of life we are in death." But also it could very well be said that in the midst of death we are in life, for life triumphs over death. This is basic to the message of Easter! God loves us so much that He gave His Son to die on the cross for us. Jesus could have come down from the cross, but He stayed there. He was looking forward through the generations and He could see us. From that cross, He was saying, "I love you. I'm staying here for your sake. If I come down from the cross, you can never have your sins forgiven, you can never be saved, you can never go to heaven, you can never have eternal life!" Konrad Adenauer, the Chancellor of West Germany for many years, said: "If Jesus Christ is not alive, then I see no hope for the world". Everything depends on the resurrection of Christ, that He rose from the grave. He conquered death and the grave and hell, and He is alive forevermore. We look for Jesus to come back again. We don't know when, it may not be in our lifetime. It may not be in this decade or the next decade, or in this century, or the next century. Jesus said, "Don't speculate about dates." He said, "only my Father in heaven knows." God loves us and wants to forgive us and give us eternal life, and take us to heaven when we die. Remember what He said at the tomb of Lazarus, "I am the resurrection, and the life. Whoever believes in me will live, even though he dies, and whoever lives and believes in me will never die." So take this marvelous story of Holy Week to your heart and be comforted. And even more importantly, be dedicated to our risen Lord, Jesus Christ! Prayer: Our Heavenly Father, we have been delving into the great mysterious things of this life which, however, are not without reason and logic, not only the logic of the human mind, but the even deeper logic of faith. Our poor faltering human speech cannot describe it, though we try. But just let the Easter message sing into itself into every heart, so we may have a great sense of peace and confidence in the goodness of God. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. "He is not here," the angel said, For He has risen from the dead. ^ roiled away 0»« On this, the world's first Easter Day. Tell them, "He is not here!" The Marys told His faithful band, And soon there spread across the land The words that conquered fear, The words that gave a lasting breath To dim the doubts and dread of death, The words "He is not here". A lleluia! The waxen lily's throat proclaims The glory of the name of names. The message for our sphere. The earth repeats with every tongue What ages since have ever sung, "Praise God, He is not here." Let us today with faith renewed Be Easter minded and imbued With great and wondrous cheer. The risen Lord - the empty grave - Should cause the ones He came to save To shout, "He is not here"!
